Head of Operations – FMCG / eCommerce Distribution
£60,000 – £80,000
We are a rapidly growing privately owned business, with its core focus on the online retail of books, media and technology products to customers across the globe. Our principle points of sale are marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay etc. where third party suppliers are encouraged to advertise their products and make them available to the customer bases of those brands. In addition to third party marketplaces, we operate a number of our own retail brands/websites.
The company has grown since its inception in 2005 and now employs over 200 staff in three separate countries, shipping 20,000+ items per day to customers across the globe. The company is globally one of the top 10 largest third-party sellers on both Amazon and eBay.

+ The successful candidate will take responsibility for all operational aspects of the business at its site in Wallingford, Oxon. The role will cover our outbound team (pick/pack/ship) and the goods-in team (decant, induct, put-away).
+ Review performance against company target of same day dispatch of all products and create monitoring and improvement plans to hit targets.
+ Understand the growth trajectory of the business and align internal metrics and KPI’s around customer expectations of performance to ensure the business is constantly aligned to shifting customer demands whilst growing.
+ Work with key management stakeholders to deliver agreed goals on cost reductions and efficiency improvement within both the workforce and procurement (which are relevant to operations) functions.
+ Will be familiar with a process of budget allocation and aligning work objectives to fit company budgetary plans
+ Review the current management/appraisal structure of all operational staff and suggest/execute a plan to improve and promote staff development opportunities within all operations teams across the business.
+ Review and promote diversity and inclusion across the workforce, encouraging a culture where all voices are listened to and all staff feel they can contribute to decision making.
+ Promote a culture of working safely, implementing and re-enforcing learnings from IOSH and NEBOSH accredited training the company has invested in.
+ Work with the company on major long-term projects, e.g. facility layout changes, automation opportunities, ongoing repair/renewal of facilities to meet the companies 18-36 month growth plans.
+ Take overall charge of facilities, ensuring they are kept at high standards and are safe and secure at all times to ensure smooth and high-quality operations.
+ 7+ Years of leading fulfilment and distribution activities within eCommerce or similar high throughput environments.
+ Strong bias for action, being ready to lead on the shop floor and work with ground level teams where needed to produce results to plan.
+ Training and experience in implementation of Lean, Sig-Sigma or other waste/variance reduction systems.
+ Strong experience with people management, motivation, recruitment and disciplinary processes where necessary including demonstrable examples where candidate has been at the heart of “business and people transformation” in past roles.
+ Strong use of Excel and/or other analytical tools, presenting your analysis to fellow management teams in a data-driven manner.
