Wightlink is one of the largest UK domestic ferry companies, normally carrying over 4.6 million passengers a year across the Solent

We are currently looking for bright enthusiastic candidates to join our ship Fleet Operations team across the Portsmouth routes to Fishbourne and Ryde.

As Rating you will ensure our customers receive the best possible travel experience by being friendly and helpful with passengers. You will actively assist with maintaining and improving the presentation of the ship. Your enthusiasm for continuous improvement will set a good example for less experienced ratings to follow.

Key elements of the role are:-

* Welcoming and helping customers

* Operating when required as a helmsman

* Assisting with the loading and discharging of vehicles

* Mooring operations

* Regular deck patrols

* Cleaning and maintenance

* Regular safety exercises to enhance emergency preparedness.

The successful candidates will be 18 years or over and ideally hold seafaring qualifications and experience. As a first point of contact on the car deck, you will be expected to deal with customers in a courteous and friendly manner and deal effectively with customer queries. You will also have excellent team working and communication skills.

You can expect to receive full training and familiarisation within a friendly working environment. Working an average 35 hour working week an hourly pay rate of £12.27 will be applicable after training (£9.37 whilst training).

As a Rating, you will be employed initially on a fixed term contract to help cover from June until October 2021 with the possibility of permanent employment. You will be required to work across all days of the week including weekends and Bank Holidays.
