Site Operations Manager - Livestock
Location: Derbyshire
Salary: £45-55,000 + benefits
To ensure the smooth, economic running of the Hatchery, ensuring at all times the most cost effective utilisation of labour and resources. To maintain and improve standards of hatchery chick quality, welfare, hygiene and the general continued overall performance of the hatchery
The role:
To gain a full understanding of poultry
Contribute to the division add value by developing requisite skills in this area in line with the company's competency framework.
To manage the operation such that the organisation of egg collections, the make up of the egg sets, hatch estimates and subsequent chick deliveries is totally effective. All relevant documentation and record keeping must be accurate and strictly adhered to.
To maintain effective communication such as that the live operations manager is immediately informed of any problems relating to hatchability, egg and chick quality.
To manage the rota system such that the 24 hour, 7 days a week alarm cover is fully maintained and to ensure the system is checked regularly.
To maintain appropriate supplies of stock and spares relevant to incubators, ancillary equipment and automated handling equipment in order that down time can be minimised during repairs ad servicing.
To ensure servicing of all incubators, ancillary equipment plant and buildings is maintained to the highest standard by the Hatchery Engineer, reporting problems as necessary to the live operations manager.
To manage the relationship with the Broiler Department such that the Managers are informed of delivery ETA's, changes to advised times, young flock details where necessary and flock replication is required.
To manage all aspects of hatchery hygiene in line with statutory requirement and Company Policy.
To follow budgetary requirements and get authorisation from the live operations Manager for any deviations.
To manage, train and motivate all staff to progressively improve performance.
To apply and abide by all aspects of legislation and Company policy on Health and Safety throughout the Hatchery, ensuring that all Hatchery employees are briefed in their responsibilities. To ensure that at all times all buildings and equipment are maintained to promote a safe working environment and that safety audits, COSHH and risk assessments are kept up to date.
To take responsibility for maintaining the correct levels and control of consumable stock such that the correct levels are adequately maintained.
To manage the training and supervision of staff such that the Hatchery Codes of Practice are adhered to including all aspects of animal welfare and HACCP requirements.
To apply and manage within all aspects of Company HR Policy such that fair standards of discipline, good communications and employee relations are maintained. To liaise with the HR Department and live operations Manager where necessary to resolve any problems.
To maintain staffing levels at the agreed establishment, recruiting personnel in accordance with Company Policy.
To keep informed of the industry situation as a whole, including updating yourself on new developments and techniques relating to all aspects of hatchery management and the hatchery operation in general. To continually strive for better performance
To manage site Bio-security at all times.
To manage and maintain noise levels, site security, vehicle movements, pollution, general appearance of the site so that a professional public image of the company is portrayed at all times.
The Health and Safety of the workforce, visitors and contractors must be paramount at all times.
To ensure the 3 conditions are adhered to at all times (H&S, Welfare, food safety)
To manage and monitor all activities and outputs, driving performance to deliver an ever improving operational excellence score
The person:
Degree educated or equivalent
Previous leadership of a livestock operation or agricultural leadership background
Intellectual rigour and a creative mind will be essential for success in this role
Experience gained within a high volume large scale food manufacturing business
Exceptional operational leadership experience
Ability to coach and develop high performing teams
Strong safety leadership and continuous improvement
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others
Strong problem solving, negotiating, and decision-making skills with the proven ability to manage complex situations
Collaborative work style, working cross-functionally is a big part of this role
Prior experience managing a production facility.
Previous exposure to, and demonstrated success in, a fast paced high-growth business environment
Proven ability to lead, manage, and motivate periods of change and disruption, fosters a culture of excellence
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both written and oral with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
Self-starter, able to work independently and lead with initiative
Budget management experience
Persuasive communicator with the ability to bring teams on a jourmey
