Job Details

The Director of Project Management is a key leadership role in the GPPM organization accountable for ensuring that cross-functional drug development teams achieve strategic objectives and deliver development, regulatory and commercial breakthroughs. The GPPM group in AstraZeneca currently has an opening for multiple Director-level roles supporting early and late stage drug development projects in the BioPharmaceuticals R&D Portfolio.

Responsibilities
Development of Program Strategy

Partners with team leaders to develop program and project strategy through proactive input and engagement.
Aligns operational project delivery to program strategy.
Integrates sub-project strategies with overall program strategy.
Leads development of drug project or cross-project strategic subteams.
Ensures linkages between project strategy and internal business processes (e.g., therapeutic area strategy, prioritization, corporate scorecard).
Identifies business opportunities and need for strategic shifts based on external and internal events.
Team Leadership and Delivery

Creates a shared sense of purpose. Inspires and energizes others.
Coaches project teams towards successful issue resolution and decision making. Focuses the team on the right activities at the right time.
Drives efficient operation of project teams and effective communications within the team.
Coordinates the efforts of sub-teams to ensure delivery at multiple levels of the development team.
Engages with stakeholder to address barriers or challenges facing the team
Governance and Investment Decisions

Leads team towards optimized governance decisions (e.g. evaluating multiple strategic options, exploring potential outcome scenarios, driving value-maximizing development decisions)
Enables efficient, effective decision making based on timely and high quality data and information
Influences a broad network of stakeholders to ensure engagement at all levels prior to key decisions
Planning, Monitoring and Delivery

Leads development of execution plans including overall plans, priorities, budget and risk management. accountable for all integrated Project Management deliverables associated with the program.
Develops challenging and realistic budgets, schedules, and performance standards that are governance approved and fulfil business reporting requirements.
Directs project support staff in maintaining plans of the highest data quality.
Drives delivery of the project plans. Manages team schedule and budget performance.
Entrepreneurship

Models cross-functional collaboration and effective conflict resolution.
Leads by example in learning and innovation. Seeks opportunities innovate and adopt new paradigms. Uses business knowledge to drive cross-project learning.
Champions and embeds better ways of working across the enterprise - helping to establish new company standard methodologies.
Skills and Experience
Required

Degree in relevant scientific discipline
Extensive experience leading projects including success in multiple roles/environments related to drug development
Expert project manager with successful record of delivering complex/ high business impact drug development projects within agreed time, quality and cost.
Experience in improving drug-development related business processes to improve speed, cost, timing or effort associated with project delivery
Skilled at building, motivating, leading and inspiring high performing teams
Expert knowledge of project management tools and processes.
Experience ensuring high quality data in enterprise systems
Track record of effective Senior Stakeholder management, demonstrating strong ability to influence strategically
Desirable

Advanced degree in a scientific subject and / or MBA
Relevant therapeutic area expertise (respiratory, immunology, infection, cardiovascular, renal, metabolism)
Project Management (PMP) Certification
