The Opportunity:
  • Working for a market leading international Private Market focused primarily Institutional investor with circa £40bn AuM, this is a newly created, Senior and very diverse role that offers a significant level of accountability and influence
  • Member of the Senior Operations team and the Global Valuation Committee
  • The role overseas three separate business functions and circa 20 members of staff (both directly and indirectly). One of the most senior roles within the broad and varied Operations and Finance business areas (i.e. non-investment)
  • Reporting into the Global Head of Operations this position has responsibility for leading the Fund Accounting, Product Control and Valuation Analytics teams
  • The Product Control team is relatively newly created. It requires further embedding into the business and you will be responsible for ensuring that it delivers maximum value to the wider business
  • The Product Control team is strategy aligned and has been established to act as a key interface between the Global Operations team, which broadly consists of Reporting, Transactions, Valuations and Company Data functions and the rest of the business, and will be involved at all stages of the product/strategy life cycle to ensure that my client delivers best practice operational service to those strategies
  • The Valuation Analytics team primarily provide General Partners valuation reviews and verification to the Valuation Committees
  • To summarise the role will have a range of responsibilities including:
  • Team Management
  • Procedures & Controls / Change Management / Risk Management
  • Projects: Lead and deliver strategic transformational change
  • Governance: Build and implement robust performance measurement processes with each third party including detailed service level agreements
  • Strategy: Communicate and plan future growth and volume impact, including resourcing and planning and use of outsourced providers as may be necessary; create and maintain a contingency plan and an exit plan for any key strategic relationship; propose and drive retendering of any external advisory relationships including, for example, external audit engagements
  • Commerciality: Manage the costs to clients in regard of the services provided including negotiating fees, setting a budget and monitoring the actual fees paid
  • Influence: Act as final point of escalation for business-critical issues; cover and assist Global Head of Operations as required

Your Experience:
  • You will be a qualified accountant with significant Private Market related Finance / Operations experience post qualification
  • Significant experience in an operations environment, in private assets, with an excellent track record in managing people, process & controls
  • Demonstrable leadership qualities
  • Commercially minded with financial acumen
  • Experience in managing a Private Market fund operations, fund finance or fund control function
  • Knowledge of leading an operations function in a regulated environment, ideally with financial services experience in private equity or asset management
  • Sound knowledge of wider regulatory obligations and experience of developing and implementing operations strategies in the UK and globally
  • Some knowledge around Tax preferred. Previous experience in US domiciled and regulated products desirable, e.g. 40Act, CIT and similarly highly regulated products
  • Detailed experience of contributing to private asset valuations preferred, with working knowledge of valuation standards applicable across multiple accounting standards and jurisdictions
  • Successful track record of involvement in change and project management
  • Experience in designing, implementing and managing control processes
  • Proven experience managing, coaching and developing a team with global responsibilities
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, combined with excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Strong problem solving skills, ability to resolve issues
  • Control and risk awareness
  • Process review, project management and change management knowledge
