Job Details

Server Engineer - 3rd Line Support - Infrastructure candidate sought for a business with offices in Basingstoke. You will work as part off a small team and be accountable for the server environment.

Purpose of the role:

The purpose of this post is to enable outstanding support for staff in terms of IT availability. You will ensure that equipment and software work correctly, deploy new and existing equipment and ensure that the infrastructure is working optimally and available when needed.

Duties
  • To ensure that the C7000 blade system and its associated systems, the synergy BL480 blade system (and their replacements) are working correctly, that faults are resolved within KPIs and planned maintenance works are carried out without impacting operations.
  • To ensure that the virtualisation hypervisors are working correctly, that faults are resolved within KPIs and planned maintenance works are carried out without impacting operations.
  • To ensure that the SAN\NAS system is operating correctly, that faults are resolved within KPIs and planned maintenance works are carried out without impacting operations.
  • To maintain and operate IT backup and recovery systems to ensure that files and systems can be recovered within the agreed time frames.
  • To monitor the performance of the server infrastructure systems, including the networking interconnects, identifying trends and potential issues, and reporting these and potential solutions to the Director of IT.
  • To be responsible for the operation of the windows servers (2008 to 2019). To ensure that they are maintained and updated, and replacements are planned and carried out to ensure systems are running supported OS's.

Knowledge sought:
  • VMware knowledge
  • Knowledge of storage
  • Experience and understanding of using and configuring DNS, DHCP
  • Experience of installing, troubleshooting and managing MS Remote Desktop
  • Experience of installing, configuring and using performance monitoring tools
  • Experience of using, maintaining, fault finding and installing windows 2012R2 servers and above in a virtualised environment
