Permanent Portage Visitor (Home Visitor for Pre-School Children with SEND) Job, Haringey, North London
Permanent, Part Time 21 hours per week, all year round (term time only working will also be considered)
Salary: Grade SO1 £30,585 - £31,557 per annum, pro rata

As a Portage Visitor you will have a substantive knowledge of working with young children with special educational needs and disabilities. You will be a flexible practitioner who in addition to working directly with children, will be able to support families and work collaboratively with educational settings and other professionals.
The ideal candidate will have:
-A minimum of 3 years' experience of working with children with additional needs
-A minimum of a level 3 qualification in child development or related field
-A good understanding of the sources of support for children with additional needs
-Effective communication and interpersonal skills
-Good literacy and ICT skills.
-An ability to meet tight deadlines and organise their own workload effectively
About the role at Haringey Council
Haringey Portage Team is part of the Haringey Special Educational Needs Service. It is a successful and supportive team which delivers. a specialist, individually tailored packages of assessment, monitoring and intervention for pre-school children with additional needs.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
-Assessing a child's strengths and needs and identifying their next steps.
-Creating individual play activities for children and supporting parent's confidence to use them with their child
-Establishing positive relationships where parents/carers by offering them emotional and practical support and signposting them to available services.
-Working with other members of the Portage team to run a weekly Stay and Play session for children with additional needs
-Working closely with other agencies to provide a co-ordinated multi-agency support package
-Planning for and supporting children with their transition into education
Applicants should be aware that the post involves travelling across Haringey, with an office base in Wood Green.
