StreetGames is a national charity passionate about harnessing the power of sport, physical activity and volunteering, to change the lives of young people growing up in poverty, and the communities where they live. The work that StreetGames does makes young people and the communities they grow up in healthier, safer and more successful.

StreetGames understands that for the 1 in 3 young people growing up in poverty in the UK, life is hard.

Over the past 15 years, Locally Trusted Organisations (LTOs) in the StreetGames network have engaged with over 680,000 young people through Doorstep Sport, our proven methodology that provides sport in the right place, at the right time, led by the right people, in the right style and at the right price (usually free). Doorstep Sport provides young people growing up in the most disadvantaged communities with accessible and affordable opportunities to take part in sport within their local community, with a strong emphasis on youth leadership. We have delivered training workshops to over 43,000 community coaches and volunteers and together with LTOs in the network empowered over 20,000 young people through volunteering and social action.

We believe in building the resilience of communities and giving them the power to address their own unique needs, so we use a community asset-based approach, delivered in partnership with a network of over 1,400 locally trusted organisations with reach into poverty-hit communities across England and Wales.

The LTOs we work with can be small charities and youth clubs, or refugee groups and community trusts, these organisations are the lifeblood of their neighbourhoods. They have earned their spurs, built trust and won the right to make a difference in their community. They understand what will work and what's needed on their patch. They reach those that others find 'hard to reach' and are able to work with us to replicate what works at scale and at pace.

StreetGames are the 'people beside the people', supporting local super heroes who work day in day out in LTOs supporting young people in their neighbourhoods. Our Doorstep Sport Advisors, Sustainability Leads and Tutors work to empower and upskill project leaders, youth coaches, volunteers and young participants to deliver a Doorstep Sport offer within their own communities that is sustainable and fit for the future.

Alongside this we are able to offer training in new skills, national and local advocacy and the space to share ideas and connect with other LTOs facing the same challenges. All of this ultimately leads to better outcomes for thousands of disadvantaged young people.

Our current business plan focuses upon five themed areas: ensuring access to doorstep sport for young people from low income, underserved communities underpins all other aspects of what we do; our 'Healthier' work is currently focused upon our leadership of the national Social Prescribing Youth Network and upon further developing our approach to supporting mental wellbeing; our 'Safer' work is predominantly focused around Police and Crime Commissioners, we bring the sport and community safety sectors together to tackle youth crime and anti-social behaviour and the issues that can lead to serious youth violence; in our 'More Successful' workstream we are focused on strengthening the role of youth voice in all that we do and supporting young people as volunteers, in their local social action and in activities that will develop their employability; finally we have separately identified the 'Holiday Gap' and the triple inequities of inactivity, isolation and holiday hunger that blight the holidays of low income children and families.

In 2021 we are launching our strategy for the next 10 years. This sets out how we plan to have a real impact on those young people and families in poverty. We continue to be an insight driven organisation. Putting learning into practice is how we stimulate change.
