We provide support, fund vital research, and campaign for better prevention, treatment and care.
An opportunity has arisen to join our team as Head of Policy and External Affairs on a one year, fixed term contract (maternity cover). We are very happy to consider secondment opportunities for this position.
This will be an exciting year, for the recently merged organisation, as we start work on a new strategy .
This role will lead a busy, high performing team to deliver our key policy and influencing activities. You will be an experienced, empathetic team leader with the ability to manage staff at different levels of seniority, setting clear goals and objectives in line with our strategy and providing development opportunities.
You will be responsible for overseeing the development of evidence based, patient centred policy positions across a wide range of areas including NHS services, diagnosis and treatment, data and digital healthcare, air pollution and smoking. You will lead the team to develop and deliver creative, high impact influencing plans to achieve real change for people affected by or at risk of lung disease. You'll have experience of leading successful campaigns strategies and a clear idea of the key routes to influence policy.
In this role you will be responsible for rolling out an operating plan and overseeing a budget, so you will be experienced in project and budget management and comfortable with setting and meeting your team's objectives. You'll have experience of managing external contracts and suppliers, and of proactively seeking funding sources to support policy work.
As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be called on to provide advice on policy and external affairs to the chief executive and directors. You will also offer counsel and policy support to the Taskforce for Lung Health, a coalition of 30 organisations working to improve lung health, which Asthma UK and the British lung Foundation provide the secretariat for.
You will be experienced and confident representing the organisation externally, in meetings with senior decision makers across government and the NHS, and as a media spokesperson.
This role will work with team leaders across the organisation so you will be skilled in communicating and negotiating with others, able to contribute to joint projects to deliver shared goals whilst also prioritising the needs and objectives of your team.
