The Mobility and Rehabilitation Service (MARS) requires an experienced technician to work in the Rehabilitation Engineering Team, based primarily within the Wheelchair Service at Woodend Hospital. This post will involve significant amounts of driving in order to carry out wheelchair repairs at locations across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.
Applicants should have a full UK driving licence since they will be driving the department's vans; the technical skills to carry out adjustments and repairs to wheelchair equipment; formal training and education to HNC / SVQ3 level in mechanical engineering or a related subject and/or knowledge and training equivalent to these qualifications. Basic IT skills will also be required since the post holder will record all of their work on the departmental computer system. Ideally, applicants should have experience of working within a healthcare organisation or in a medical equipment maintenance role.
Duties will include:
Fault finding on manual and powered wheelchairs and carrying out repairs to restore them to a safe and usable condition.
Delivering wheelchairs and associated equipment to wheelchair users at their homes or in hospital or care home settings.
Demonstrating equipment to wheelchair users and their care teams so that they can use the equipment correctly.
