The Children's Trauma Therapy Service, at Bradford Family Action, offers specialist trauma and attachment-focussed therapy to children and families who have experienced complex early life trauma; including domestic abuse, sexual abuse and or traumatic / complicated bereavement.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified psychotherapist, counsellor or clinical/counselling psychologist to join our small and dynamic team of trauma therapists at a key time of service development. This is new post focussed on the provision of specialist psychological therapy to children and families who have experienced significant domestic abuse. Initially for a fixed term of 1 year, we hope that this will become a permanent post when the fixed term ends, funding dependent.
The Children's Trauma Therapy Service
As a service, we work with the needs of the whole family in mind. We are looking for a qualified psychotherapist, counsellor, or clinical/counselling psychologist who can be trauma-focussed in their clinical approach, has experience of working with children, young people and their parents/carers and is able to think systemically. This could include Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists, Creative Psychotherapists, Family & Systemic Psychotherapists, Counsellors with additional training/experience in working with children, Play Therapists, or Clinical/Counselling Psychologists who would like to deepen their therapeutic skills in working with complex trauma. We would particularly welcome applications from individuals who have additional clinical training in a specific trauma and/or attachment focused therapy (e.g. EMDR, TF-CBT, TF-Play Therapy Theraplay, DDP etc.)
If successful, you would join a passionate, multi-modality team, offering specialist assessments and therapy to children and families who have experienced domestic abuse. You would hold a case load of families for whom you would provide specialist therapy, focusing on recovery from the effects of trauma and attachment rupture. Working to a clear clinical plan for the family, the kind of interventions you might offer could include: individual, dyadic or family therapy and therapeutic parenting work with parents and carers. You would also offer consultation/training to the wider professional network on the effects of developmental trauma and domestic abuse. You will often be working with inter-generational trauma and so it is important that you are able to think systemically and have some understanding of trauma, its effects and the different presentation and therapeutic recovery needs of children at different ages and stages.
Family Action provides an excellent wellbeing offer and will invest in your professional development with on-going quality training and career development opportunities, including specialised training associated with this post / the model of the Children's Trauma Therapy Service. You will be offered regular case supervision and monthly group clinical supervision together with your team. Family Action offers a generous pension scheme and leave entitlements.
