We're looking for a brilliant, impactful, experienced senior level communications and engagement professional to be our Interim Director of Communications for the next twelve months.
In that year you'll lead a small team to make massive impact, raising our voice and our profile in the places that matter to us, helping us to effectively influence our key audiences and supporting the delivery of powerful and meaningful programmes of work.
You'll also ensure that we have a communications function that is fit for our future, influencing and shaping how the communication team looks, works and is understood by colleagues across our organisation. Above all, you will prove the case for senior level communications leadership and the value that it brings to our organisation.
You don't have to come from a background in the creative or cultural industries, nor do you have to be an expert in the learning and skills environment - we have people with that knowledge and understanding who can guide and support you.
You do need to be a skilled communications and engagement professional experienced in leading a small team to make impact, working innovatively, creatively, collaboratively and with purpose, with tight resources and multiple demands on your time, and with a commitment to delivering change on behalf of those who need it.

Who we are
We are the UK wide agency that opens pathways for those that aspire or could aspire to have meaningful and sustainable careers in the creative industries.
By doing so we support the creative industries to have the workforce they need so that they can thrive and deliver benefit to their communities and audiences.
Our policy priority is to work particularly to support people from underrepresented groups and disadvantaged communities into careers in the creative and cultural industries, and we especially focus on those at the start of their careers, in the 16 - 24 year old age groups.
What we do:
We use our voice clearly, wisely and effectively to influence policy and effect change in the context of our core purpose, across all four nations of the UK.
We play a critical role in ensuring young people are aware of the opportunities open to them for meaningful careers within the creative and cultural industries.
We work directly with educators, particularly providers of vocational education, to ensure young people can develop the skills they need to be successful in those careers.
And we work with employers in our sector, supporting them to create open, inclusive and fair opportunities for young people to start and develop their careers.
We keep the principles of fairness, diversity and inclusion at the heart of all our work, and we campaign and influence to ensure that our sector increasingly does so in its workforce practices.

Because this is an interim role and there is a lot to be done, at pace, in the coming twelve months we are looking for candidates who can start at relatively short notice - ideally within a month of appointment.
We are a fully virtual team by default (not just because of the pandemic!) So you can be based anywhere in the UK, and we would particularly encourage applications from candidates who are based in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or the English regions.
We are a team of around twenty people in total, with average income of c. £1.25m pa. Our CEO joined us in November 2020 and our Chair was appointed in February 2020, so we are in the midst of an exciting time of evolution and development for the organisation.
We are very influential in the world of vocational training, especially apprenticeships, in the creative and cultural industries, but we don't shout about ourselves or what we do very much. That needs to change - not for our own sake, but so that we can make ever great impact on behalf of young people, especially those furthest from the jobs market, who could thrive and flourish in those industries.
We are deeply committed to diversity, inclusion and equity. It sits at the heart of our work, and we are passionate advocates for fair, inclusive working practices within our sector. But we still have work to do ourselves internally, and we are looking for candidates who understand that journey, will support our commitment and add value to our work in this area through their own values and experiences.
