Head Teacher, Harrysmuir Primary School, 35 Hours per week, Closing date 20th June 2021

After 1 August 2020, Education Authorities can only appoint the following categories of people as permanent Head Teachers:-
  • People who have achieved the Standard for Headship.
  • People appointed as permanent Head Teachers of a public school, a grant-aided school or an independent school on or before 1 August 2020.

A person who has not yet achieved the Standard for Headship may be appointed as a head teacher, provided the appointment does not exceed 30 months.

Harrysmuir Primary School is a non-denominational school with a role of 409 Primary children serving the community of Ladywell in Livingston. Most (87%) of the children who attend Harrysmuir are placed within quintile 1 and 2. With FME uptake in P4-7 of 28% the school was allocated a significant amount of Pupil Equity Funding. The school has 15 classes including nurture provision, with 15 class teachers, one ASN co-ordinator and 2 additional part-time Support for Learning teachers. The Head Teacher is supported by two Depute Head Teachers and two Principal Teachers. The school benefits from Music, Dance and PE specialists and there is brass and guitar tuition. Additionality in staffing this year has included a Family Link Work and additional teaching with a focus on numeracy and literacy, and pupil support provision. The school is well supported by a team of nine Pupil Support Workers who support children in class. two administration assistants and one clerical assistant. The school runs a very successful Breakfast Club and several After School Clubs.

Inveralmond Early Years Centre is a non-denominational early years setting, providing seamless early learning and childcare for children aged 3-5. This session the roll has been 30 morning, 17 afternoon children and 10 full day. Staffing comprises a shared head teacher, a depute head teacher, an early years officer and a team of 13 practitioners (some part-time). A part time administrative assistant. Ladywell Nursery School is a non-denominational early years setting, serving the community of Ladywell in Livingston, providing early learning and childcare for children aged 2-5. This session the roll has been 32 morning, 24 afternoon children, 25 full day and 16 2 eligible 2 year olds. Staffing comprises a shared head teacher, a depute head teacher, an early years officer, an additional graduate (nursery teacher) and a team of 14 practitioners (some part-time), a part time administrative assistant.

A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland is essential.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Successful candidates will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment and the cost will be met by the candidate. The fee for a Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59 or Existing Member is £18. The £59 cost (where appropriate) will be deducted from your salary over a 1 or 3 month period by repayment schedule. If your employment concludes before the amount is re-paid in full, the outstanding balance will be deducted from your final salary.
