An exciting opportunity has arisen for a seconded Principal Teacher role within St Martin's for session 2021/22. In developing our school space and approach to Nurture this session we are now looking for a passionate individual to oversee and embed this as a targeted intervention in raising attainment. The successful candidate will work closely alongside staff - developing their skills and knowledge whilst creating a sustainable model for the future. This role will have a class commitment of 0.8 and contribute to developing quality learning and teaching across the school.
The successful applicant for this post will require Catholic Approval.
St Martin's RC primary School serves the needs of Roman Catholic and non-denominational pupils in Tranent and surrounding areas. St Martin's is a single storey building set in extensive grounds. There are seven classes from P1 - P7 and a 20 capacity nursery class delivering 1140 hours. There is a dining room and a gym/assembly hall and a library system running in the school with the support of parent helpers. A co-operative framework of support from home, school and church surrounds our children.
As well as being committed to ensuring every child receives a high quality of education and achieves the highest possible standard of achievement. St Martin's is also committed to celebrating success and working with the wider community. Pupils throughout the whole school are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour and are active participants in the decision making process. The school encourages all staff and pupils to be leaders of learning through the school improvement plan and many new co-ordinator roles have been recently established. Our learning teams support leadership at all levels and we pride ourselves on developing real life skills for life, learning and work.
St Martin's has an active Parent Council and parents are actively encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life.

Subject to the policies of the school and the Council, the duties of Principal Teachers are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct. These should give reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to:
Curricular development and quality assurance.
Contribute to the development of school policy in relation to the behaviour management of pupils.
The management and guidance of colleagues. Review the CPD needs, career development and performance of colleagues.
Provision of advice, support and guidance to colleagues.
Responsible for the leadership, good management and strategic direction of pastoral care within the school.
Assist in the management, deployment and development of pastoral care staff.
Implement whole school policies dealing with guidance issues, pastoral care, assessment and pupil welfare.
Working in partnership with colleagues, parents and other specialist agencies as appropriate.
Working alongside class teachers to share best practice and take forward the Improvement Plan priorities.
Participate in the overall administration of the school.
Assist in aspects of the School Improvement Plan

PVG MembershipThis post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.
In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
