Senior Business Analyst - Fair Funding

£35,745- £43,857

Location: Birmingham

Brighter. Bolder. Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council is the largest local authority in Europe - and we're on the cusp of something truly special. With an annual spend of over £3billion we're gearing up for major events such as the 2022 Commonwealth Games and HS2. Championing economic growth for the city, we're determined to create a brighter future for all our citizens and at the heart of this ambition lies our Finance team. Join us and you won't just improve life for 1.1 million people, you'll help Birmingham become one of the world's most successful, sustainable cities.

Our vision is for Finance to be a best-in-class function that's agile, innovative and proactive, as well as diverse and inclusive. This is an incredibly exciting time for us; the opportunities for you to contribute and influence, to make bold and significant changes are endless. As we change finance services to give customers more control and add value through data analytics and insight, you'll be at the forefront of achievement and progress.

As a Senior Business Analyst, you'll be working closely with your Finance Manager to support our exciting plans for improving the use of education funding to improve outcomes for Birmingham's children and young people. You'll provide analysis, financial modelling and expert recommendations, helping to influence decisions, advise senior managers and ensure compliance with legislation. You'll support the Finance Manager and deputise when necessary on all aspects of managing the Dedicated Schools Grant (over £1bn), including running formulae for school budgets, reporting to Department for Education and developing financial policy for the Schools Forum. It all adds up to an exciting role where you'll provide excellent business partner support to help us meet our goals.

CCAB/CIMA-qualified, you will have advised on a range of operational issues before. You can draw on good knowledge of business partnering, management accounting, commercial thinking, planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance management, as well as relevant legislation. You'll also have the skills to build strong relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders (particularly schools and senior managers). As an experienced manager, you're motivated, politically aware, caring and passionate about what you do.

This is more than your next finance role. It's a chance to create a brighter, bolder Birmingham.

At Birmingham City Council, we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, and offer agile working arrangements.
