The Faculty of Science is seeking to appoint a Modern Apprentice IT Technician.

Working as part of the Faculty IT Team, the post will deliver professional and effective technical support and Helpdesk Services, providing first line IT Support for staff and for students, ensuring IT services meet the needs of customers.

The role is based in the Faculty but will provide support primarily in Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS),Specific aptitudes and interest required would include installation, configuration and troubleshooting of Windows and Mac Operating Systems and software applications such as MS Office; diagnosis of hardware and software faults and replacement of system components; the use of Active Directory; a familiarity with, and ability to support, computer-based instrumentation in laboratories.

The successful candidate will be enrolled on the Modern Apprentice scheme and will undertake formal education by attending relevant courses provided by local colleges as well as learning skills working on the job.

The Modern Apprenticeship Programme is coordinated within the University and gives the successful the candidate an opportunity to 'earn and learn' as they will achieve and SVQ qualification over the course of two years on the programme. Please note that as a result of funding rules Modern Apprentices should start the scheme before their 25th birthday.
