About the role

We are seeking to recruit an Intelligence Team Manager until 31 May 2022. This particular post will lead on the development of our strategic intelligence products, including our strategic assessment.

The Intelligence Department is responsible for scanning, collecting, analysing, assessing, evaluating and disseminating intelligence obtained from sources inside and outside the ICO to support the delivery of the ICO's Regulatory Action Policy and Information Rights Strategic Plan. The Department ensures that intelligence plays a central and strategic role throughout the ICO and is used effectively to guide tactical and strategic decisions.

The Intelligence Team Manager role has responsibility for initiating and leading on complex intelligence gathering and research, developing new and existing intelligence stakeholder relationships, supporting priority inquiries and investigations, leading on specific projects and producing key intelligence products in order to identify emerging issues and guide the work of the wider office.

The Team Manager role is responsible for the management and development of staff in their area, ensuring that relevant performance targets are agreed and met.

The successful applicant will lead our strategic intelligence team. They will therefore need to have experience of applying relevant intelligence processes and techniques as well as being able to analyse complex information and legislation, looking for patterns and trends. A good understanding of the wider parliamentary, democratic, political and organisational framework in the UK and oversees will be important too

They will need to manage, motivate and develop their team effectively to support them in delivering impactful strategic intelligence products that will guide wider organisational prioritisation. This will include ensuring team members can make full use of a new intelligence database system

The role will give the successful applicant the opportunity to interact with staff at all levels within the organisation when developing and delivering strategic intelligence products, therefore strong interpersonal skills will be key, as well as an ability to take high profile decisions when required.

Please note if you are appointed to work with the ICO you will be required to complete security clearance processes. These include identity and qualification checks and a Basic Disclosure level check of unspent criminal convictions.
