Hours of Work35 hours per week, based around core hours 9 - 5.30. Occasional planned out of hours work and out of hours standby on a 1 in 3 rota.
Duties & Responsibilities
We're looking for an experienced infrastructure professional to join a highly respected organisation as a senior engineer accountable for running and driving improvements on the Data Centre, Internet and Application Delivery networking which supports our business. The role will drive operational performance and stability across the network infrastructure which underpins services John Lewis and Waitrose Stores, Head Office Functions, and Ecommerce sites.You will also be responsible for successfully landing infrastructure upgrade and transformation projects. With a large investment programme in infrastructure and cyber security, your experience will be invaluable in bringing new technology into service. You will also support the development of junior engineers to have the skills and experience needed to be the seniors of the future.
This role will be responsible for the operation of Data Centre and Internet facing networking and successful transition of new technology projects, working with other in-house teams and 3rd parties as required. You will also handle escalated tickets and major incidents.The role will be required to support callout/out of hours work when required. Additionally, the Senior Network Engineer will support architects in delivering the strategic roadmap, keeping abreast of latest industry developments and proactively maintain and enhance performance ensuring stability. The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for 3rd line support for complex incidents and problems, working with our internal customers to turn user requirements into technical solutions and ensure that a high quality service is delivered.
Required essential experience skills and qualifications
It is essential to have knowledge of the following products and specialisms within a large multi data centre environment, and a willingness and capability to develop skills and knowledge in additional networking technologies as the IT landscape evolves:
• Application Delivery Controllers - Cisco, Citrix• Secure Web Gateway - Bluecoat, Palo Alto, zScaler• Running an AS - BGP, peering, IP transit, DDOS prevention • Experience of working within a service management framework e.g. ITIL
Required desirable experience skills and qualifications
• Enterprise/Datacentre Routing and Switching - Cisco Catalyst IOS/XE, Nexus NX-OS & ACI, San Fabric, EIGRP, OSPF and STP• Firewalls and ACLs - Checkpoint, Palo Alto, Cisco • Common Network Services - DNS/DHCP/IP Address Management• Remote Access & Site to Site VPNs - Checkpoint, Cisco
The successful candidate will have previous experience in a technical role (i.e. Infrastructure Developer or Infrastructure Support Engineer) within the Partnership, or, previous experience in a similar role within an external organization.
