Personal Assistants have the most important role within ENABLE Scotland by making a positive difference every day to the lives of the people we support. No two days are the same for our Personal Assistants but what we can guarantee is that you will be supporting someone with a learning disability to achieve their goals and outcomes - whatever they may be!
Each person we support has different support needs, so your role may include assisting them with various aspects of personal care, moving and handling or positive behavioural support whilst expanding their social networks and connections.
ENABLE Scotland creates a bespoke team around every individual we support, and our team of Personal Assistants work collaboratively to ensure the safety, wellbeing and aspirations of the people we support are met.
The Best in You Brings Out the Best in Me
The people we support have many varied interests and hobbies and have many of the same dreams and aspirations as we do; they just too often do not get the opportunity to experience these same opportunities. A career with ENABLE Scotland is as rewarding as it is diverse, Personal Assistants at their best have the potential to truly bring out the best in the people we support.
Let us introduce you to Colin:
Colin loves time with his support staff at home while his family carers are working. Being a big fan of football he loves watching the games, and is also into news and current affairs, a keen newspaper reader and enjoys movies and gaming. He's an avid mobile phone user loving to browse through Tik Tok videos. He loves surfing the web on his iPad, is interested in wrestling and has a great sense of humour, having laughs with his team is a big part of his day. Colin is a keen photographer and during lockdown his team support him to take part in weekly zoom group meetings. Highly sociable young man, he loves being out in the community (especially on those rare sunny days in Scotland) and just being as generally active as possible. Colin relies on his support staff to keep him safe, assist with moving and handling / transferring from his wheelchair, and to make sure he is supported with procedures around medication and personal care, all of which full training will be given. Staff will support Colin to prepare meals. He enjoys being out for drives in his mobility car which his ideal personal assistant will be insured to support him in. A typical day could be going to the shops to ensure Colin has all the essentials he needs, or even just to have a wander around his local community. Sadly, it's not always possible for Colin to enjoy what many people would consider these 'simple pleasures' without proper, dedicated support.
That is why Colin needs you! Will you bring your best so that Colin can live his best life?
