Your team focuses on providing IFRS technical accounting advisory on complex transactions, policy development and updates whilst working closely with internal and external stakeholders in development of IFRS accounting policies. You will be highly visible to senior managers so strong communication and stakeholder management is a must. Who knows where it might lead after 2 years!!

As the Head of Accounting Policy Development you'll be responsible for the development and maintenance of group-wide accounting policy and ensuring that financial reporting complies with this policy. To do this, you will manage a small team of technical accountants with expertise in the insurance industry and specifically the accounting and regulatory environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • You'll lead the development of group-wide accounting policies and the communication of these throughout the Group and the maintenance of a group accounting policy manual.
  • Evaluate new financial reporting requirements and oversee their implementation. This will include the implementation of IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 in future periods.
  • Share information about financial reporting developments to the firm's wider Finance community, as well as supporting the finance training agenda
  • You'll contribute to the development of accounting in the UK and internationally through trade bodies and bilateral contacts, and provide advice to the business and other functions, such as Risk, Treasury and Tax, on accounting policy issues and on the financial reporting aspects of transactions.
  • Respond to letters from accounting regulators.
  • Provide ad-hoc technical support to CFOs and reporting teams across the group as required.
  • Provide technical accounting support to Group-wide strategic projects as required.
  • Undertake technical reviews of group finance statements prior to issuance to ensure compliance with group accounting policies and external requirements.

Skills/ Qualifications/ Experience required
  • Degree level, fully qualified accountant with 8 years + PQE (or in Country/Regional equivalent if outside the UK). Those with less years but the right level of knowledge will naturally be considered.
  • Excellent IFRS technical knowledge and regulatory requirements specifically within the insurance sector.
  • Substantial post-qualification experience in a similar role in a large financial services organisation or accounting firm.
  • Excellent understanding of the best practices used in developing and applying accounting policy and practice Proven ability to successfully influence and challenge others, especially at senior management level.
