The role (12 month fixed term contract)

Responsible for the leadership and management of the Regional Support Team (RST) for the North West region, the Regional Director will have the opportunity to impact on the delivery of their strategic vision through raising the profile of civil engineering in the region, building relationships and influencing at a high level and by ensuring an effective and efficient service is provided to current members.

Duties and responsibilities

- Building relationships with regional and local government to influence policy development
- Constructing responses to regional consultations, in conjunction with regional experts, providing advice to regional government to influence policy
- Engaging with media to raise awareness of civil engineering's contribution to society and their policy
- Developing partnerships and schemes with a wide range of organisations to raise awareness and encouraging pre-19 students to consider a career in civil engineering
- Ensuring effective communication with ICE members
- Promoting lifelong learning and maintenance of competence by administering regional events
-Advising and supporting individuals on routes to progress to Fellowship membership
- Developing and implementing the regional Business Plan and key strategies
- Providing leadership, direction and management of the multi-disciplinary RST

What are we looking for?

- Applicants must be educated to degree level or equivalent. A Chartered Civil Engineer (or a knowledge and understanding of civil engineering and construction) would be desirable, though not essential.
- Candidates will have industry experience whilst some knowledge of engineering education, training and professional development would also be desirable.
- Candidates will have previous exposure in liaising with and influencing a wide audience of people and will have significant experience in customer / client relationship management.
- Applicants should have experience of external relations in the national political environment and experience of media relations
- Attention to detail and the ability to provide regular, timely and concise reports, both verbal and written is essential.
- Experience managing and developing a diverse multi- discipline team is essential, whilst experience of performance management is highly desirable.
- Candidates will have experience of business planning, preparing budgets and financial management
- The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare and deliver presentations. Applicants will also be comfortable in dealing with public media briefings
