Job Details

Harmeny Education Trust is a sector-leading children's charity providing therapeutic care and education for children with complex additional support needs. We currently work with children of primary up to early secondary stage, both on a day and all-year-round residential basis.

Harmeny is situated in a beautiful 35-acre woodland estate, which includes residential and education accommodation, community garden, orchard, wildlife habitats, children's play areas and a mountain bike track. Harmeny is located in Balerno on the outskirts of Edinburgh, at the foot of the Pentland Hills; we are easily accessible by bus and there is ample parking.

The Trust is seeking to introduce new continuing care and learning services for young people, in line with the recommendations from the Independent Care and Additional Support for Learning Reviews.

An exciting opportunity has therefore arisen for a Curriculum Development Officer to join our Education Team on a full-time, fixed-term basis for approximately 12 months. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a secondary curriculum for young people who are placed at Harmeny on a residential or day education basis.

Working closely with the Education Team and key external professionals, the postholder will create a progressive and holistic curriculum that offers breadth and depth, a range of relevant qualifications and has flexible pathways, enabling young people to secure positive destinations. The role does not carry line management responsibilities.

Harmeny is highly committed to playing its part in delivering the recommendations from the Independent Care and Additional Support for Learning Reviews and this post is funded through The Promise Partnership and Pupil Equity Fund.

A fuller job description and person specification can be found on our website. Harmeny is a values-led organisation and a good fit with our ethos is as important to us as having relevant experience.

A benefits package is offered including the following:

§ A competitive salary of up to £41,150 per annum depending on experience

§ Pension scheme

§ Policies that promote a healthy work-life balance

§ A range of wellbeing initiatives

This is an exciting opportunity for an educational professional with a passion for improving the life chances of young people who are care experienced and have ASN, thereby supporting Harmeny in achieving its strategic aims to grow and diversify.
