The CGM Group (East Anglia) Ltd was founded in 1985 and provides a complete service to both commercial and domestic customers. Operating throughout East Anglia, CGM Group has bases in King's Lynn, Norwich, Cambridge and Peterborough and regularly travel into Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.

A fantastic new opportunity for a Financial Controller has arisen to strategize, shape and manage company financial policies. The role will oversee the running of the Finance Department ensuring key accounting information and strategic analysis across the business, also taking responsibility for the day-to-day line management of the Finance Team.

This senior role will provide clear, reliable information to the Directors and Senior Management Team of the financial performance and position of the business, with key recommendations to continually improve and grow.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Update financial policies in line with business growth
  • Through Finance Team, creation of all financial information and weekly/monthly packs
  • Lead, direct and manage Finance Team
  • Forecasting and planning
  • Managing and mitigating risk
  • Managing and creating budgets - problem-solving variances with department heads
  • Recommending means to increase capital
  • Investigate and manage all tax considerations and PAYE/NI liabilities
  • Recommend and manage grant and other funding applications
  • Manage all financial options available to the company
  • Key involvement in commercial tenders, pricing and margin analysis
  • Create company schedule of rates with complete pricing analysis to support
  • Recommend company investments and analysis of all opportunities
  • Lead company procurement, achieving agreed targeted savings
  • Manage company cashflow
  • Manage relationships with key external stakeholders e.g. the bank or accountants
  • Embrace and challenge company systems - field management system, HR, POs and invoicing
  • Review and manage commercial and supplier contracts (desirable)
  • Complete with directors Company Secretarial duties including Companies House submissions and filing
  • Part of management team on specific, bespoke company growth projects
  • Lead company vehicle, equipment and machinery reviews

  • Timely monthly receipt of accounting information by the Board of Management
  • Minimal errors with work produced by the Finance Team as a whole

  • Company sales/margin increases and cost reductions to budget
  • Effective communicator with all key financial stakeholders including clients, suppliers, company accountant, bank, auditors, regulators and government bodies

PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

E= Essential; D= Desirable

  • Minimum 5 years senior management experience (E)
  • Professional Accounting qualification such as CIMA or ACCA (E)
  • Extensive experience of working within the Accounting industry (E)
  • Previous line management experience (E)
  • Proficient accountancy software experience, ideally Sage (E)
  • Excellent MS Office skills, preferably with CRM software experience (E)
  • Excellent written/oral communication and listening skills (E)
  • Excellent customer service skills (E)
  • Strives to maintain accuracy at all times (E)
  • Ability to use own initiative, commercial acumen and has a positive approach and capability towards developing efficient ways of working (E)
