British Patient Capital is the largest domestic investor in UK venture and venture growth capital funds with £2.5bn under management. BPC's long-term vision is for more home-grown and fully funded high growth companies to fulfil their potential to be players on the global stage. Recently BPC has launched its direct co-investment programme where it plans to invest £250m directly into companies by co-investing alongside its fund managers into the UK's most promising scaleups. It will also manage Future Fund: Breakthrough, a new £375m programme that will invest in late stage R&D intensive companies. The programme was announced in the Chancellor's Budget of 2021 and is due to launch in early summer. BPC is now looking to hire across all levels into these direct investment teams.

This role is for an Investment Manager focused on either Deeptech or Life Science investments within the Future Fund: Breakthrough programme. You will also be expected to work across the range of activities of BPC, working with investment colleagues based in the Sheffield and London offices, and liaising with legal, risk, finance, and external advisors. We support flexibility in work and would also encourage applications from those candidates who may prefer an element of home working, on the understanding that travel to the office will be necessary when business needs require.

As an Investment Manager, you should have a basic commercial understanding of the operations and finances of deep tech venture backed companies in order to carry out financial and investment analysis, due diligence, negotiation of legal agreements, financial modelling, and portfolio monitoring and reporting. Additionally, you will be conducting appraisal and due diligence of new co-investment opportunities such as financial and investment analysis, working with internal stakeholders throughout the investment process, preparing investment papers for new co-investments through the internal investment processes, and preparing reports and analysis of the portfolio. Dealing with matters arising with investments, analysing issues, developing action plans, communicating with interested parties and resolving disputes is also part of this role.

You will have experience in executing venture capital investments, experience and understanding in co-investing alongside other funds, experience of working in small, agile teams, as well as experience of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and customers and of developing external networks. Ideally you will have experience in investing in deeptech or life sciences, working in a startup, and experience in fund-of-funds.

You will demonstrate a collaborative approach, good teamwork and interpersonal skills - able to work across BPC and BBB as 'one team'. Additionally, you will show the ability to work collaboratively and flexibly as part of a team to achieve measurable results, commercial awareness & good negotiation skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent networking and organisational skills. You will be proactive with the ability to deliver results and numerate with analytical capability including modelling.
