As an Assistant Finance Manager, you'll work and support a number of scientific group s to produce the kind of reports that will keep them on track. Reporting to the Finance Business Partner, supporting three departments you'll work closely with Group Leader s and Project Managers to produce invaluable financial performance information, such as monthly group management accounts.
Working in a team of five, within the wider Management Accounting Team of fifteen, you're used to working in a busy finance department to provide accounting support. If you've got formal finance qualifications, great. Yet as important is your confidence, attention to detail, customer focus, numeracy, flexibility and ability to hit the ground running. Good communication and IT skills are equally essential.
As a finance professional, you need to be able to communicate complex financial information in an easy-to-understand way - both written and verbally, in order to improve the understanding of key drivers of performance, particularly across the larger, more complex projects within the portfolio. You'll also lead the annual budget and periodic forecasts - challenging the quality and integrity of the data and flagging any areas of concern, as well as putting forward possible solutions. And whilst this is about providing financial support, it's about building good relationships to maximise business partnering opportunities too. You'll also help with training - not just for the finance tools and systems that the team will need to use, but you'll take responsibility for providing guidance , training and development of the Finance Technician in the team. In addition, you'll carry out other ad-hoc finance activities as needed.
Key Skills and Attributes
- Part qualified accountant or equivalent is desirable
- Confident, proactive individual with the ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision
- Ability to improve the impact, and understanding, of financial reporting on performance across the portfolio
- Support the Finance Business Partner in their daily tasks including timely analysis and reporting
- Ensure adherence to accounting rules, procedures and timescales.
- Analysis of financial data and production of management accounting information for the business.
- Continuous review of project cost and revenue allocation and escalate as necessary
- Clear communication skills across multiple levels of stakeholders.
- Embrace available technology to promote efficiency
- Continuous improvement, creating new reports to present to customers.
