Purpose of the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Franchise Operation Managers to join our team on a fixed term contract until the end of January 2022.

Working alongside our existing Franchise Operations Managers, you will provide a professional level of support to the on-boarding of new franchisees, including planning and managing new store openings from initial stages through to post opening. You'll ensure new franchisees are trained to understand the day to day requirements of operating a Welcome franchise.

Key Accountabilities;
  • Provide franchisees with support and advice on how to improve standards and hit business plan targets, through regular store visits and agreeing actionable operational reviews to drive sales and profitability
  • Review internal Southern Co-op store communications and ensure that relevant and helpful information on new initiatives is passed on to franchisees in a timely manner, filtered where appropriate
  • Ensure an appropriate balance is maintained between the entrepreneurial aspirations of franchisees and the requirements of a co-operative food customer offer and store environment
  • Ensure new franchisees are able to operate and understand all instore systems including, but not exclusively, EPOS, Promotions, Pre orders (allocations), Planograms, Ordering, Receiving Deliveries, Daily Processes
  • Understand the Franchise Operations Manual and VME manuals, ensuring that they remain current and relevant to the needs of the business, that any updates are agreed with SC stakeholders, and communicated effectively to franchisees
  • Maintain close working relationships with SC's retail operations team and remain up to date with all current operating policies and procedures
  • Work closely with Trading and Format's team to ensure smooth opening of new stores and communication, and with all relevant suppliers/contractors, eg VME, Key 2 , Shopfitters
  • Ensure that franchisees maintain the required brand and operating standards in their stores, with any development or remedial actions logged formally through store visit reports
  • Continually update new store opening processes as required
  • Ensure the 12 week new store opening process is fully followed, implemented and signed off by both yourself and the franchisee to confirm full understanding
  • Champion franchisees interests within SC on all aspects of the store operation and customer offer
  • Manage the day to day relationship between SC and franchisees, and the resolution of trading issues
  • Build and maintain great relationships with franchisees remembering it is their business but our standards also need to be maintained. Remember we need to sell not tell, and teach not preach
  • Report back to SC any information that may be business or brand critical i.e. cash flow problems, potential negative media reporting
  • Assist your fellow Franchise Operations Managers in organising support and resource for new store openings

Key experience, skills and Knowledge;
  • Good experience of developing relationships with customers (franchise business owners)
  • Excellent Influencing skills to operate effectively in a relationship where no direct line management authority exists - the ability to get the right message across without alienating franchisees
  • Well-developed communicating skills at all levels and the ability to "sell it not tell it" to franchisees and "teach, not preach"
  • Excellent commercial acumen with a sound understanding of cost control, financial planning and budget setting processes
  • A background in food retailing, preferably in the convenience sector
  • Ability to lead and manage several projects simultaneously to successful conclusions and within time restraints
  • A tenacious team player and completer-finisher, able to work with colleagues at all levels and across different departments to solve franchise issues of all types
  • Willing to regularly stay away from home for new store openings and support where and when required
  • Good working knowledge of Excel,Word and Powerpoint
