We are recruiting for a Software Engineer that would like to peruse an opportunity working in an Avionics and embedded domain. The successful applicant will be able to develop their Software Engineering skills whilst being given opportunities to work on upcoming new projects and opportunities to support the development and implementation of the next generation of Avionics products. The key focus of this role will be primarily in the commercial fixed wing environment, specifying and implementing software for airborne satellite communication systems. Whilst this role is based in Crawley, Thales operates on smart working and a large proportion of this role can be carried out remotely from across the UK.

Key Duties
  • As part of a team, undertake the specification, design, implementation, test and integration of software in line with company processes and to required standards
  • As part of a team, accurately define and estimate required effort for tasks
  • Contribute to successfully meeting project and product deliverables within schedule and to budget
  • Work closely with the software architect and software development team to develop the requirements allocated to software.

Required Experience
  • Awareness of the full software development lifecycle including Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • Understanding in the need for requirement analysis, Design, Coding, Testing & Configuration management
  • Experience of using C and C++
  • Experienced in Real-Time embedded systems & software in development and testing
  • Use of configuration management and change management tools e.g. Jira, GIT, BitBucket
  • Experience of continuous integration tools such as Jenkins, VectorCast, CUnit
  • Awareness of Real time Linux targets (including kernel/drivers)
  • Awareness of network protocol stacks, e.g. PPPoE
  • Multi-core SoC devices, e.g. TI K2H, ARM, Cyclone V
  • UML design experience, e.g. with Sparx EA
  • It would be beneficial to have awareness of software standards: RTCA - DO-178B-C, DO-330, DO-331, DO-332 guidelines for developing safety-critical software
