THE COMPANY: Brewster Partners are delighted to be supporting Leeds Community Foundation to recruit Development Director.
Leeds Community Foundation supports thousands of charities and voluntary groups across the area, addressing inequalities and working together to help create opportunities for those that need help the most.
This is a pivotal role within the organisation, as the Development Director will play a critical role in delivering the organisation's mission by putting into practice the vital part that local philanthropy/giving plays in strengthening local communities and building opportunity for all.
You will build on established links with private individuals and the business sector, whilst growing financial resources for the longer term, generating significant flexible income that will support the organisation's initiatives.
The post holder will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) with specific leadership responsibility for income generation. This will come from developing relationships with existing and new donors, with a focus on recruiting High Net Worth (HNW) individuals.
Line managing the Head of Relationships, the post holder will mentor that role to support long term trusting relationships with existing donors, and help them to transition to become more intimately involved in the future of the Foundation.
The role will develop and implement a strategy for working with wealth advisors and will lead on the legacy proposition for the organisation, supported by the Philanthropy Advisor.
Responsibilities will include:
Design and implement the Development Strategy and Plan.
Line manage the Head of Relationships to maintain and develop sustainable relationships with individuals, companies and other contacts.
Develop and manage the professional advisor programme including ongoing liaison and communication with key firms in accountancy, legal and wealth advice arenas.
Deliver on targets for immediate impact and endowment funds generated from major donors.
Be comfortable with 'making the ask' for contributions in excess of £100,000 and converting prospects into active donors.
Oversee the Development Strategy and Plan in terms of marketing and communications support in close liaison with Head of External Affairs.
Liaise with the team on delivery of annual programme of events to new donors/investors, as well as maintain contact with current supporters.
Oversee the overall donor experience alongside the Programmes Director, as well as contribute to the strategy for donor reporting and the way our learning shapes their future giving.
THE PERSON: The successful applicant will have a natural ability to engage people at all levels and a professional yet warm demeanour.
You will be strategic thinker with the ability to create a deliverable strategy covering all aspects of development work with management experience and the ability to build, lead and inspire a team of high-performing development staff.
You will ideally have a successful track record of prospecting, approaching and securing major gifts to an annual target of £2million + and a track record of securing grants from Trusts and Foundations.
This role will also require extensive experience of building and managing a donor base, as well as overseeing stewardship.
You will need to be flexible, adapt quickly to a swiftly changing environment, and enjoy developing creative ideas to tackle the tough environment that we face post pandemic. You will have the emotional intelligence to build long term, lasting relationships and play the long game, not just go for quick wins.
You will need to be able to align yourself to the organisation's values and work closely with the Senior Leadership Team.
