Samarkand Group provides the gateway connecting western brands and retailers to the rapidly growing Chinese eCommerce market. Founded in 2016, Samarkand is a fast-growing business with its headquarters in London and offices in Shanghai. The company announced its intention to float on the AQSE market in February 2021.

The Role

You will be reporting directly to the CFO, the Group Financial Controller will be responsible for month end close process, Financial Reporting, Statutory Accounts, Board Reporting, Treasury, Balance Sheet Control, Cash Forecasting as well as ad hoc work as required by the CFO.

You will have a key role in improving our internal control environment as we continue to grow, so you will need to be able to think fast but smart in a rapidly changing environment. We are looking for a self-starter, confident and ambitious Finance professional who is passionate about fast pace technology business environment.

Duties Include:

  • Ensuring the Group maintains a strong financial control environment
  • Designing and implementing group reporting processes
  • Leading and developing the finance team
  • Preparation of the monthly Board Pack for Board reporting
  • Consolidation of group monthly results
  • Consolidation and reporting of budgets and forecasts
  • Managing the audit process
  • Preparation of year end statutory accounts
  • Treasury and cash management
  • Management of UK payroll
  • Ensuring compliance with all UK tax regulations including payroll, VAT, corporation tax, Customs & Duties, and various other statutory requirements (including the management of our external accountants and tax advisors)
  • Integration of current and future acquisitions
  • Significant ad hoc project work
  • Liaising with our finance team in APAC
  • Contributing to company financial strategy and decision-making process


  • ACA qualified or equivalent (3+ years PQE)
  • Strong technical background
  • Experience managing financial processes, ensuring compliance with accounting and tax regulation
  • You have excellent analytical skills, finance and business acumen
  • You are open-minded, transparent, have a great sense of humour, combined with the ability to inspire people
  • You believe in a culture which emphasises happiness, continuous improvement and high performance
  • Mandarin speakers preferred
