Job Details

This position is for a Laravel API Developer with Dev Ops Skills. You'll be joining our rapidly growing team supporting our senior API developer and will be responsible for developing APIs for our native mobile apps and websites. The position provides an ideal opportunity to work on green-field developments in the medical device space, working with a commitment to the highest standards of code quality and development best practice.

We are looking for an individual with a strong software engineering background, and at least two years of experience developing APIs commercially using Laravel. You should also have strong SQL and database design skills, and be comfortable working with MySQL. You should have work live on the web that showcases your talents. Testing is a key part of this role - the successful candidate will be confident in writing unit tests, and have a firm appreciation of the importance of testing as part of the development lifecycle.

You will also be comfortable deploying work to AWS (and potentially other cloud services) and be confident in specifying and maintaining scalable deployments.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about API design and familiar with the latest developments in the world of web applications. Experience with medical device software, API security, and Jenkins based CI setups will be a bonus.

Role

The Laravel API Developer with Dev Ops Skills supports our senior API developer, reports into the Head of Technology and is responsible for developing APIs for native apps and websites in the medical device space. The Laravel API Developer will support the Head of Technology and other Development team members in planning, designing and implementing the technical infrastructure to support R&D and product deployment.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborating with the development team to specify APIs that support mobile applications and websites
  • Implementing APIs using Laravel
  • Planning, designing and implementing MySQL databases to support the APIs
  • Planning and implementing code testing process to ensure robustness of products and compliance with software as a medical device quality standards
  • Managing the publishing and go-live procedures for products using Jenkins CI
  • Ensuring robustness and smooth running of all implemented products following release
  • Troubleshooting and fixing any reported non-compliance issues in live products


Requirements
  • Proven track record delivering or contributing to Web APIs
  • Proficient with PHP, HTML, and CSS
  • Proficient deploying and updating API installation on AWS
  • Excellent knowledge of the Laravel framework
  • Comfortable with the terminal and basic Unix / Linux maintenance
  • First-rate problem solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience using Git (GitFlow experience a bonus)
  • Knowledge and experience in RESTful API design
  • Proficient with SQL / relational database design
  • Highly motivated self-starter, comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Able to both give and receive feedback, and contribute to a positive, collegiate culture where all team members feel supported and valued
  • Excited to help define best practice in API development for our projects
  • Comfortable writing tests, and with PHP testing tools and frameworks (PHPUnit)
