A well invested meat manufacturing company is looking to hire an hands on and engaging Health and Safety Manager who is able to influence and engage external authorities, promote positive culture and behaviours. (247 operational site)

  • Managing two sites at Telford and Dudley ( 80% Telford, 20% Dudley due to size of the sites) Working hours, 7am - 4pm - can be flexible
  • Direct reports; 1 site trainer
  • Base Salary; £45,000 per annum + Benefits inc, impressive training and development programme, 33 days holiday ( inc bank), Private Medical Care and competitive Life Assurance.
  • Reporting directly to the site Manager with a dotted line to the Group Health and Safety Manager

Main Responsibilities;
  • Promotion of a positive and engaging H&S culture
  • Annual co-ordination of generic and specific risk assessments, ensuring accurate completion and recording of all findings and non-conformances
  • Develop and regularly review the non-conformance corrective action plan for site, working with relevant managers and employees to generate solutions to eliminate/reduce business risk
  • Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, and manager and colleagues are aware of their responsibilities
  • To be involved with relevant management teams to ensure the safe installation of equipment
  • Develop working practices that are safe and comply with legislation
  • Establish a full programme of documented Health & Safety inspections, audits and checks.
  • Work together across site with Occupational Safety, HR and Management teams to consistently develop relevant SOP's, ensuring competency across site. Monitor trends and drive actions as required
  • Conduct thorough reviews of all accidents taking place at site, ensuring learnings and findings are shared with key stakeholders across the site and business and where applicable reported to the HSE
  • Work with third parties to ensure effective management of insurance related queries and claims
  • Assist in the development and delivery of Health and Safety Training where required
  • Conduct relevant surveys e.g. noise, dust, lighting, exposure to chemical substances and makes associated recommendations;
  • Ensure that specific Health & Safety incentives that are introduced are managed and measured to ascertain effectiveness
  • Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases and procuring external expertise as necessary
  • Support and coach management with investigating the causes of accidents, the circumstances leading to them and compiling the necessary reports and giving advice to prevent recurrence

Essential qualifications and experience;
  • Change management skills
  • Able to support cultural change and behavioural safety
  • Food manufacturing background or similar - ESSENTIAL
  • NEBOSH certificate as a minimum
