Job Description:
This role is suitable for an engineer with broad experience of Wintel server technologies and services, and virtualization technologies including VMWare.
The primary purpose of the Wintel Engineer SME - Provide 2nd & 3rd line support and to work within the Project Delivery Cloud and Platform Team to perform a range of tasks including Wintel Build and design, request/change and project work.
The role is based on a DXC site, in Erskine, UK. However we will also consider applications from all over the UK who can work on a remote basis.
Please note: Security clearance is one of the requirements of the role.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Knowledge:
Wintel Server 2008/12/16/19
Active Directory
VMWare ESX/ESXi and associated products
Cloud technologies and infrastructure
Sys-admin
SCCM
WSUS & Other patching tool knowledge
Optional Advantageous:
Backup - Symantec/Veritas and common back up platform
Scripting knowledge (PowerShell, VB)
Storage
Data protection
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
Microsoft Office
Daily Routine:
Troubleshooting / provide solution(s) to system and project problems, diagnose and solve hardware/software problems
Administering and managing Active Directory and domains
Participation in server builds
Participation in service migrations
Consultancy with other lines of service
Operational Readiness activities
Pro-active problem identification and resolution
Coordinating with other lines of services and Project Management personnel ensuring that targets are never missed
Provide input into design documents
Preparation and/or review of service documentation
Key Attributes
Strong knowledge of Wintel Server Operating Systems
Strong troubleshooting skills
Working knowledge of SAN configuration
Good working knowledge hardware platforms
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of monitoring alerting, logging and status messages
Fundamental networking knowledge - IP, DNS, IP routing, network address translation etc.
Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with Windows Server operating systems
ITIL- must understand principles
Automation principles and application
Desirable
Scripting skills, Powershell, Python
Out of Hours
Out of hours and weekend work may be required
