Job Purpose

The IT Platform Operations Engineer is a supporting role within the IT department at tlmNEXUS. The IT Platform Operations Engineer will work closely with the IT Manager and existing IT Platforms Operations Engineer playing a key role in building policy and procedure towards the goal of adopting and maintaining DevOps across the business. The current IT team requires an experienced IT engineer who has a wide range of skills and excellent ability to adapt and learn in a fast moving Agile software environment. As well as implementing and supporting a move towards DevOps and Cloud based computing. They will also need to support and maintain the existing on-premise infrastructure and development environments during the transition. The role will operate within Service Transition and Service Operations stacks of the ITIL framework.

The IT Platform Operations Engineer role requires someone who can operate and identify key work tasks independently as well as contribute to the wider team objectives. Additionally, where needed they may need to cover for other roles within the wider IT team in their absence providing excellent specialist and technical end-user support across the whole business and in the corporate environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Help implement and support DevOps Roadmap

• Administer and coordinate change within the DevOps platforms liaising with Development and Test teams

• Work closely with IT Manager to implement and support infrastructure for key project work and company objectives

• Administration and maintenance of existing on-premise and cloud infrastructure for both corporate and customer networks to a high standard and working within agreed SLA's

• Incident and Problem Management via the Helpdesk following ITIL based processes, company policy and procedure

• Oversee day-to-day systems administration activities including maintenance, backup, availability and performance monitoring

• Collaborate with various business departments and suppliers to ensure alignment with ISO 27001/9001 Infosec processes and compliance with all necessary regulations

• Provide cover to other areas of the IT department in the case of absence where required

• Ensure Infrastructure maintains its high standard of security by regularly carrying out mitigation and preventive maintenance tasks

• Manage off premise hosting sites in a highly secure environment

• Manage relevant contracts and suppliers related to position and role responsibilities

Person Specification

Essential Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Significant IT support experience with at least four years' working in a similar role in a software house

• Working Knowledge of Azure Cloud Platform and Azure DevOps

• PowerShell and other Scripting Languages (i.e. Python & Ruby)

• Microsoft Windows based Network and Server environments including core roles such as. AD, Clustering, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy

• Virtualisation Technologies (Nutanix, VMWare, Hyper-V) and Network Storage Technologies

• Microsoft Exchange and MSSQL Server

• Advanced Knowledge of Networking and Network Infrastructure (Extreme Networks & AeroHive preferred)

• Experience with SNMP and Network Monitoring Tools

• Strong attention to detail, critical thinking and analytical skills

• Effective communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

• Ability to write concisely for documentation

• Calm under pressure, able to respond flexibly in reactive situations and to prioritise workloads according to agreed standards

• Ability to achieve UK Security Clearance

• ITIL Foundation

Desirable


• Background in ITIL or further qualifications

• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD working environments

• Knowledge of DevOps Tools such as Azure DevOps, Octopus Deploy, Chef, Terraform, Jenkins

• Experience of working in an ISO 27001 / 9001 certified environment

• Microsoft & VMWare qualifications

• Experience in supporting a remote working user base

Salary offered will be in the range £35,000 - £40,000
