Job Details

Sitting within our Finance department and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Indirect Tax Manager will act as a vital point of contact on VAT related issues and will play a key advisory role to the business on tax queries and concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Point of contact with Front Office staff on any VAT implications of transactions and projects
  • Confident advising the business and explaining tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders
  • Reviewing VAT compliance for the business
  • Reviewing VAT accounting and account clearing functions and reconciliations
  • Responsible for liaising with the business (legal, IT, trading) on VAT aspects of projects


Person Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience of indirect tax legislation and policies with particular focus on UK oil, gas and power trading
  • Cross border trading
  • VAT/Custom/Excise warehousing
  • Terminal markets roles, in particular International Petroleum Exchange
  • FS/partial exemption experience
  • Barge trading in the EU
  • HMRC liaison
  • Front office and support function liaison and support
  • VAT advice on new country trading/ office set up/ Grid set up on Gas/Power
  • Knowledge or ability to understand many different trade capture systems and how information is entered and reported and how that affects tax reporting
  • Comfortable reviewing contract wording/ reviewing GTC's and the interaction with VAT law
  • Tax qualifications desirable but not essential dependent on experience

  • Ability to communicate and deal with non-tax colleagues across a range of disciplines and seniority levels
  • Must be flexible to be able to deal with issues which arise within growing/changing business
  • Possess flexibility to deal with manual processes and work arounds
  • Possess good commercial awareness and understanding of accountancy
  • Possess good organisational, motivational, priority identification and project management skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines
