Role purpose:

The UK Financial Controller is ultimately responsible for the overall financial control of each of IG's subsidiaries based in the UK, ensuring the safeguarding of company and client money & assets, as well as the accuracy and completeness of local financial accounting; regulatory and tax reporting; and statutory accounts.

Business Financial Control, together with the wider Business Finance Team, are integral to the success of all operations, supporting the delivery of good financial outcomes through provision of high quality management information and analysis.

The responsibilities of this role for the UK entities (including European branches), include:
  • Ownership of the financial statements and monthly management information
  • Management and oversight of the daily liquidity position
  • Corporate governance matters, including the preparation of material for and participating in the board meetings for these entities
  • Daily oversight of compliance with the Financial Conduct Authority's Client Assets Sourcebook ("CASS") segregation processes and controls performed in IG's off-shoring location (Krakow, Poland) - this includes Client Money and Asset Committee membership, representing the UK regulated entities
  • Ownership of the various CASS related documents and policies
  • Oversight of all financial controls performed by the Financial Control team in Krakow
  • Oversight of broker control processes and controls performed in Krakow
  • Shaping and influencing requirements for commercial initiatives and continuous improvements
  • Key internal stakeholder management and business partnering across the business
  • Lead a team of approximately 1-2 employees with clearly defined responsibilities over the matters outlined above


The role will be based in London. It may require some travel to any of the overseas branch locations as matters arise and also to Krakow (Poland) where an off-shore financial control team has been established to support legal entity and country specific financial controllers across the group.

Role responsibilities:
  • Day-to-day financial management and oversight of the systems, processes and controls over financial reporting for the group's UK entities
  • Day-to-day management, control and oversight of the UK entities liquidity and the funding these entities provide to other group entities
  • Oversight of the month-end close process to enable efficient and effective management reporting on a monthly or quarterly basis, as required
  • Review and sign off of UK entities for submission into the group consolidation processes
  • Oversight of external financial reporting, including preparation of entity financial statements and working with external audit and regulatory assurance teams (IFRS and Local GAAP)
  • Analysis and reconciliations of both cost lines and balance sheet accounts (across all UK entities)
  • Corporate Governance of the UK entities and ensuring, with the support of the CoSec, to adhere to all Group policies and governance frameworks
  • Review of daily client money and asset segregation calculations for regulatory purposes with a solid understanding of CASS rules.
  • Represent the UK regulated entities at the Client Money and Asset Committee (as a member) and own the client money and asset policy for these entities
  • As part of Client Money and Assets, review and sign the monthly CMAR report of for filing
  • Daily working capital management and authorising payments to clients, brokers and suppliers
  • Provide oversight over the broker control function in Krakow and ensure all controls are sufficient to support the UK Entities balance sheets and governance
  • Provide assistance where required to FP&A for budgeting and forecasting purposes (Costs, Cash flow and Balance sheet)
  • Production of analyses and information to key UK business stakeholders and business leaders
  • Collaborate with the Finance Change team to shape and define business processes, drive requirements and agree resources, acting as the key internal finance stakeholder for change projects and be accountable for successful delivery
  • Stakeholder management throughout the firm, using both control and influence in engagement and communication
  • Lead the Financial Control team to drive continual process improvement and make changes to improve services and support to the business
  • Build strong relationships with the Head of Group Reporting and other Financial Controllers across the group to drive consistency and continuous improvement across the function
  • Build strong relations and ensure a good upstanding is established in the financial control team for corporations and operational taxes effecting the UK entities, including the accounting thereof and controls
  • Build a strong relationship and support the regulatory reporting team to meet external reporting requirements. Ensure regulatory reporting are included in impact assessments as a result of changes to financial reporting
