As an API platform, TrueLayer deeply cares about its developer experience. With our product offering continuing to grow, our Developer Experience team is dedicated to creating a cohesive, frictionless onboarding experience for developers to integrate with our platform

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be building new features which contribute to the way TrueLayer's platform looks and 'feels' to developers. Working in a cross-functional team of engineers, product managers and designers, you'll be a confident communicator and diligent engineer who thrives on taking responsibility, setting the highest standards of quality and raising the bar for everyone around you.

In return, we'll empower you with the latest technologies and tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, and give you freedom to shape the backend systems you work on. As a Senior Engineer, you'll be a subject matter expert and mentor to some of the best and brightest people in the industry, as we continue on our journey to build industry-defining products on a global scale.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will
  • Develop scalable services which empower our customers with the features they need to build, use and manage our products from the TrueLayer console
  • Work in our cross-functional Developer Experience team, collaborating with world-class Designers, Engineers and Product Managers to deliver developer-facing features across the TrueLayer platform
  • Own new product features, from breaking down requirements to planning tasks for you and your team, and shipping to production rapidly and regularly
  • Collaboratively iterate on the design and implementation of our products
  • Lead code reviews and provide guidance to junior engineers to maximise their potential and growth
  • Help shape our engineering culture and help make sure TrueLayer remains an exceptional place to work

Voluntary On-Call DutyWhile being on call is a fantastic learning experience, we understand being on call out of hours is not for everyone, so at TrueLayer it's voluntary. If interested, you can train with, and join, our on-call rota, which will involve compensated rotations of
  • Being On-Call to respond to critical incidents affecting the availability of our platform
  • Identifying, mitigating and resolving root causes of such incidents
  • Coordinating our response to potentially major incidents, and being an active voice in postmortem/root cause analysis discussions to prevent future problems.

RequirementsWe'd love to see from you
  • Strong experience building APIs in any backend programming language (we use C# .NET Core & Rust)
  • Understanding of SOLID principles and software development best practices;
  • Appreciation of benefits and tradeoffs involved with different architectural decisions when designing microservices
  • Ability to evaluate, and implement various testing strategies depending on the situation
  • Familiarity with observability and alerting within mission-critical distributed systems
  • A drive to continually improve processes, code quality and enjoyment within the team

We'd be especially excited if you
  • Have some understanding of Protocol Buffers, gRPC, and message queue systems
  • Have used end to end testing tools such as Cypress, Playwright, Puppeteer or Selenium
  • Are experienced, or interested, in building front ends with TypeScript & React
