This is an engaging and dynamic opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Student Placement to gain valuable hands-on experience at Taylor Hobson, one of the world's most technically advanced metrology businesses. This is an exciting chance to develop both personally and professionally in a challenging but rewarding environment.

What you will do:

  • Define and coordinate robust engineering processes
  • Developing manufacturing processes to optimise output and efficiency
  • Generate and implement engineering solutions to take products from development to full production
  • Support key business projects
  • Introduce creative quality improvements to achieve 'Right First Time' standards
  • Investigate and evaluate test equipment improvements resulting in an increase in test equipment reliability or efficiency
  • Resolve manufacturing problems in a timely manner
  • Design and develop solutions to maximize production efficiency
  • Review processes to seek opportunities to implement automation.


What you will need:

Currently enrolled within and working towards a minimum of a 2:1 in Mechanical Engineering plus the following:

  • Experience using SolidWorks CAD
  • Geographically available to attend on site
  • Confidence to work on your own initiative as well as being part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Be fluent in oral and written English
  • Efficiency - able to produce significant output with minimal wasted effort
  • Honesty/Integrity - does not cut corners ethically. Earns trust and maintains confidence. Speaks plainly and truthfully
  • Follow through on commitments - lives up to verbal and written agreements, regardless of personal costs
  • Attention to detail - does not let important details slip through the cracks or derail a project
  • Flexibility/adaptability - adjusts quickly to change priority and conditions. Copes effectively with complexity and change
