Job Details

This is a brand-new role in one of the UK's most exciting ecommerce brands who are currently undergoing a complete technology transformation. This is across the entire business with huge amounts of investment, including their data structure.

They're looking for a Lead Data Engineer to completely own the Data & BI strategy for them to become truly data driven to help make business decisions, forecast and improve their customer experience. This is a leadership role to take charge of the Data function, while still getting the chance to be hands on.

The plan is to move from a SQL Server based structure to the latest cloud native technologies in AWS. So, this isn't just moving the servers over to the cloud, but a complete overhaul of the structure. They need someone who understands the existing technologies, as well as a complete and thorough understanding of AWS Analytics Services, with proven experience of leading an organisation through a similar transition.

This is an amazing opportunity to help an already successful business move to the next phase and get to use the latest Data & BI technologies available. It's a fast-paced, agile organisation where you'll have the opportunity to make decisions and implement them quickly, and under your own authority. As the project moves along, it will give the Lead the opportunity to grow the team around them and support with further expansion into the US.

Skills & Experience

SQL Server SQL Analysis Services, SQL Reporting Services

data warehousing tools and techniques (BigQuery, Spanner, Snowflake, Redshift etc.)

Must have experience with the AWS stack (AWS Glue, S3, Redshift, Athena, Quicksight)

Development skills - ideally Python

Machine Learning Technologies & Techniques

The role is in Manchester. The team are currently all remote but will likely be in the office for 2 days a week. For this position they would ideally like someone who can comfortably get into Manchester for 2 days a week when permitted (Happy to discuss alternative arrangements) They're open to candidates outside of an ecommerce background. The most important things are experience leading a project like this, and knowing the technologies.

The hours are flexible with core hours being between 10am-4pm. Salary is up to £70k with additional benefits and the interview process is 2 stages. A first informal chat, and then a more formal interview. No tech tests. Feel free to get in touch for an informal chat with me about the role, or apply via LinkedIn
