About PacePace is at the forefront of a revolution in hotel revenue management, by allowing real time, continuous pricing that reflects demand and supply. After only 24 months in the industry, Pace has already closed some of the world's leading brands.

Fast forward 5 years and you will see Pace driving the same practice in almost every other industry. Prices will be dynamic, following demand and supply in real time. Imagine every price in our daily lives being dynamic from parking lots to supermarkets.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a Lead Frontend Engineer to help us design and build the user experience of Pace Revenue.

We're a highly capable team of engineers and data scientists, working together to transform the way the hospitality industry sets prices. Our product is based on cutting-edge data science and machine learning.

We're a kind, compassionate bunch of people who enjoy working with each other. We aim to be a great place to work for everyone irrespective of gender, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, introversion/extraversion, age, marital status, or disability status. Our management team are all parents, and as such we support reasonable and flexible working hours.

About The RoleAs Lead Frontend Engineer, you'll

Work closely with our product lead and product designer to discover, define, prototype and build features our customers love.

Take ownership of our frontend engineering practices, tools and architecture. Our base stack is React, TypeScript, Apollo GraphQL (Client/Server). We build UI using Styled Components, and test with Jest and Cypress. We continuously deliver from GitHub to our cloud native Kubernetes platform. (Ok, we do still press a deploy button manually for prod, but soon...)

Lead a small team of JavaScript engineers working across our Web frontend and Node GraphQL services. You'll support and mentor others in a senior individual contributor role, without line management responsibilities. (~80% building, ~20% supporting).

Collaborating with our platform engineers and data scientists, you'll turn complex data insights from our Python APIs and microservices to simple, understandable user experiences.

Report directly to our CTO, with the power and autonomy to impact our product and practices across the board.

Requirements A person who's likely to succeed and thrive in this role will recognize themselves in some of the following areas. Don't worry if you don't catch them all, this is not a game of Pokemon!

You love working on product, shipping features, and delivering value to users. We like to stay on the cutting edge not because it's cutting edge, but because we believe that investing in good developer experience is investing in user experience, as it enables us to build a better product faster. Hopefully you do too!

You want to succeed as a team. We hope you enjoy working in a cross-functional team, and understand that everyone from developers and designers all the way to customer success play an equally important role in a company.

You take ownership of your work and support others in theirs. We think this would be a good first Lead role for someone who knows their way around the web tech stack and is already used to helping others in a senior engineer capacity, or an opportunity for a more experienced manager to get back to brass tacks and focus on building product!

You have at least a couple years of experience with the "Facebook Hipster Stack" React, GraphQL and some flavour of strongly-typed compile-to-js languages (TypeScript/Flow/Rescript).

You relish solving problems with a lot of autonomy. Alongside your peers, you will decide what to build and how to build it. You'll deploy it, and look after it in production too.

You're ideally based within reach of our London office, but we're open to full remote in the UK or EU for the right candidate. Our platform and science teams are already distributed, but our product team is in London.

  • Salary in the range of £75,000-90,000 p.a.
  • Very generous options package
  • Private health insurance
  • Flexible working hours and the ability to work remotely as needed.
  • Access to modern offices in Shoreditch, London (when offices become a thing again)
  • A company of kind people who care about each other
  • An opportunity to make a big impact as the lead engineer of the customer-facing web properties of a well-funded, growing, industry-transforming B2B SaaS company.

Interview Process

Interested? Send us your CV along with relevant links to your GitHub, website, portfolio, or products you've built, and we'll respond to you within 24 hours (Monday-Friday!)

Our interview process looks like the following
  • Initial get-to-know-you call with one of our team members (15-30 mins)
  • A small homework exercise (2-3 hours max). If you have a strong portfolio of open source projects, we'll likely skip this step!
  • Technical interview led by our Sr frontend engineer (60-90 mins). We want to hear about your experience and engineering philosophy, and pair code to solve a small problem!
  • Product interview led by our product lead (60-90 mins)
  • Final interview and an opportunity to speak to our founders, led by our CEO (30 mins)

At this time we are only able to consider candidates in the UK or EU, who have the right to work without requiring visa sponsorship.
