About RASASC

We are an all woman independent organisation based in Croydon providing specialist and confidential support services to female survivors of sexual violence from age 5 who live in any borough in South London.

We are a member of Rape Crisis (England and Wales) and adhere to their national occupational standards, a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited Counselling Centre and a member of the Telephone Helplines Association.

What you will be doing

We are looking for a female treasurer to join our friendly team of voluntary trustees to provide financial oversight, working alongside our bookkeeper, and excellent governance, strategic leadership and act as ambassadors for the organisation.

The overall role of the treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation’s affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

Main Duties

  • To assist the strategic development of the organisation and provide financial oversight.
  • Lead the Board’s duty to ensure proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are controlled, invested and economically spent in line with governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Preparation of management accounts for presentation to the Board (6-8 sets per year).
  • Preparation of statutory year end accounts.
  • Regular liaison with the Bookkeeper and Auditor.

What we are looking for

Essential

  • A commitment to the aims and principles of Rape & Sexual Abuse Support Centre.
  • A finance or accounting qualification and up to date knowledge of financial reporting requirements for charities.
  • Good knowledge of financial systems.
  • Ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
  • Strategic vision and good, independent judgement.
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of charity SORP and impending changes.
  • An understanding of charity finance.

RASASC is committed to promoting equality and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community, especially the BAME community, to enable us to have a diverse trustee board that reflects our clients and communities. Applications are welcomed from all sections of the community. Applications will be accepted from women only under Schedule 9, part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

What difference will you make?

You will be helping this vital cause which is dedicated to the healing and empowerment of around 5,000 survivors of sexual violence every year.

What’s in it for the volunteer?

That you will be working with such a dedicated group of women, both staff and Board members, who are totally committed and passionate about the work they do for survivors is empowering, fills one with pride, and is very fulfilling.

All reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time commitment

Board meetings every 6 weeks. Approx 1 day per month for preparation of accounts and other financial matters - at your convenience.

How to apply

To apply please submit your CV along with a covering letter stating why you wish to join the organisation and how your skills would add value to the board. Applications should be sent to: trusteeworks@reachvolunteering.org.uk

Deadline: 05 Mar 2021.

Company

Reach is the leading skills-based volunteering charity in the UK. We are the single biggest source of trustees for the voluntary sector in the UK. Connecting people, skills and good causes is our mission and our passion.

What we do

We help charities and other non-profits find the skills they need to thrive. Every year hundreds of charities recruit volunteers through our service. These volunteers share their skills as trustees, advisors or mentors, carrying out short term projects or ongoing operational roles.

Our goal is to create a step change in the quality, range and scale of skills-based volunteering and trusteeship in the UK. We are proud of our growing impact.

Why we do it

Charities can boost their capacity, increase their effectiveness and innovate / find new ways of doing things when volunteers donate their professional skills. Trustees play a crucial role in leading charities and overseeing their work. When the trustee board of a charity has a good mix of skills and professional experience, it can govern more effectively.

By supporting charities to recruit volunteers and trustees with valuable skills, we help charities increase their capacity and strengthen their governance.

How we do it

Our online community inspires people to use their skills for social good. We help organisations to make the most of those skills, to think through their needs and to attract the right person. We believe that communication is important in recruiting trustees and volunteers, so our service encourages dialogue between organisations and individuals. Our service is free to volunteers and to most charities. Find out more about when we charge.

For volunteers and charities

Whether you are an organisation that wants to find a volunteer with particular skills or a new trustee, or an individual who has a skill you want to offer, you can:

  • join the community as a volunteer or as a charity and create a profile
  • explore roles and profiles
  • make contact and talk through what you're looking for
  • make a match.

Our guides and resources help volunteers and good causes make the most of skills-based volunteering.

Other organisations and partners

We also work with other organisations including:

  • businesses, supporting their staff into rewarding volunteer or board positions
  • funders, supporting their grantees.
