Hands up if you have relatives, who are over 60?
By 2040, they say that over 1.2 million older people will need Social Care in the U.K.
Unreported deaths in care homes during COVID have forced the government to invest lots of money in digitising the industry once and for all.
So, if you're looking for a company who is about as COVID-proof as you can get, my client, who has built a reputation as 'the future of social care' since 2011, would be a great place to join.
They built a cloud and mobile-based platform that digitises all records, saving carers one full day every week in paperwork, unlocking them to give a better standard of care to those that need it most.
During the first lockdown, the family portal they'd already built, was the only way that families could stay connected, see pictures, and stay informed as to how their loved ones were doing.
Imagine the comfort that brought to so many people, not to mention the pride the developers felt, knowing what their work had achieved.
Developers tell me all the time that they want to make a difference with their skills.
Well, here, your work will have a massive social and technological impact.
As part of their growth, they are looking to add a few senior developers to the team, initially to enable breathing room to work on new projects, feature sets and integrate their platform with lots of 3rd parties.
The head of development is a true leader, you'll get lots of autonomy, and no tech will be off-limits.
SKILLSET - Senior Software Engineer
They use a mixture of Ruby-on-rails and Python / Node.js Lambdas for the Microservices currently.
What matters is that you're language flexible and willing to learn the ones you don't know already.
If your background's .NET, but you're not wearing Microsoft coloured glasses, you should apply too.
Its more about hiring the right person, a true collaborator who values quality code without over-engineering.
You'll need some Cloud (They use AWS and Azure) and modern JavaScript framework experience too. (They use Vue.js for new stuff and AngularJS which will be phased out completely by the end of the year)
SALARY / BENEFITS - Senior Software Engineer
£45,000-£55,000, flexible working, paid certifications, Pluralsight and 25 days holiday + public holidays
After your onboarding the role will be fully remote until COVID calms down, after that it will likely be a mix of remote/office.
