An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant Breast Surgeon.
The successful candidate will actively participate in the Multidisciplinary Team for Breast Cancer which includes radiology, pathology, oncology and specialist nursing colleagues and three other consultant breast surgeons as well as one other consultant general surgeon with breast interest and one associate specialist and trainees.
The Ayrshire Breast Service is primarily based at 2 sites with the symptomatic and therapeutic aspects carried out at University Hospital Crosshouse while the screening unit is based at Ayrshire Central Hospital (ACH) in Irvine. Plans are in progress to co-locate the symptomatic service at ACH to enable us to meet referral demand and ensure patient safety during and after the pandemic. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further influence and develop the Ayrshire service.
The South West Scotland Breast Screening Service is based in Ayrshire & has a catchment area covering both Ayrshire & Arran and Dumfries & Galloway health boards.
Approximately 180-190 new cancers are diagnosed through the screening unit each year, and approximately 200 cancer patients are diagnosed through the symptomatic service bringing the total to 390 - 400 per year.
The successful candidate will undertake regular operating lists including localisation surgery for impalpable breast lesions and is expected to have considerable training and experience in this aspect of breast surgery. Candidates with oncoplastic surgery training and or experience would be welcomed.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran serves a population of 366,000 with specialities located at University Hospital Crosshouse (Kilmarnock) and University Hospital Ayr.
Appropriately experienced candidates will hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice, and must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT or CESR at the date of interview.
The Terms and Conditions of service are those determined by the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 and are offered on a seven programmed activity basis, though candidates who wish to work less than full time shall be considered.
