First though, we value honesty at Games Workshop, and running eCommerce here isn't like running it elsewhere.
We don't discount so you can't run price promotions. Not ever. We don't have spare inventory to be cleared out, so there's no end of line promotions either. We've hundreds of SKUs and they're all valuable to some but not all of our customers, so there's no "golden goose" to flog. The Warhammer hobby is too complicated to rely on AI recommended or related products. So those are out. You'll need to keep costs down (we prefer to invest in making more great products for our fans) so you won't be able to fall back on expensive agencies to advise you or run your campaigns. That also means we prefer to rely on organic reach. Our SEO is just fine, so there's no room there. Our platform is outdated (we'll need you to scope and deliver a new and better one) but in the meantime there's little that can be done with how the site behaves. Our logistics sit within another team so you won't be able to directly affect our delivery offer either. Finally, we're the manufacturer, distributor and retailer of our products, and so we're subject to more restrictions and legal considerations than most online businesses.
That's a lot about what you can't do.
What about what you can do? Well, that's down to you. We can't wait to hear why you're the right person to take hold of our online sales and further our goal of allowing our customers to buy whatever Warhammer product they want, wherever they are in the world and however they like to shop. We're especially excited to find out how you're going to deliver double digit growth year-on-year!
To succeed in the role you'll need to deliver profitable sales growth globally, including £2M new money in China and £1M new money in Japan. You'll also need to deliver a huge digital transformation project that redefines how we engage with our customers.
Make no mistake this is a senior role at one of the FTSE 250's fastest growing companies. We might not have fancy titles here (they just don't work with our culture) but for context, elsewhere this would be badged as a director level role reporting to a C-level position. The right person will find themselves with a long career here and have plenty of opportunities to grow.
