Telent Senior Category Manager, Warwick (Permanent)

In these extraordinary times of the coronavirus outbreak Telent is continuing to Recruit. We provide services to customers which are integral to providing mission critical systems and infrastructure across the UK and Ireland and we need to continue to deliver those services.

To help limit the amount of face to face contact during the recruitment process, we will now do more online assessments and use Skype/Conf Calls for interviews wherever possible.

With current annual revenues in excess of £400M and 2,400 employees. We operate within various industry sectors including Rail, Traffic, Public Safety, Defence, Service Providers, Enterprise and Public Sector.

Role Profile:

Reporting to the Head of Procurement for Telent Technology Services Limited, you will be responsible for managing the procurement strategy for our Telent Infrastructure Services (TIS) team, ensuring our engineers' 3rd party requirements are delivered at the right cost and quality and on time!

Due to the variety of category spend within this function, you will need to be well organised and innovative with excellent communication skills.

The role will consist of working closely with the business to understand stakeholder requirements and developing a structured sourcing and fulfilment strategy to deliver significant efficiencies and cost savings, demonstrating value from our best in class Procurement function.

Typical Deliverables:

Analysing projected, current and historical spending patterns of the TIS team across significant spend areas in various merchant categories, construction and building supplies, ensuring the appropriate payment method for the transaction has been made;
Work with Operations to identify additional and new spend requirements for current and new projects;
Development of a Strategic Sourcing methodology to meet those requirements, following a systematic approach that considers and compliments any generic category strategy plans already in place and creating new where required;
Devise a fulfilment strategy to reduce stock levels, lead times and optimise order quantities, working within current category sourcing strategies and creating new where required;
Co-ordinate with central procurement on material management and generic category spend;
Negotiate with key suppliers to obtain lowest total cost, whilst maintaining quality and delivery standards;
Gather and act upon supplier performance management and provide feedback to the Senior Category Manager as appropriate;
Production of Framework contractual agreements with preferred suppliers that fulfils all business requirements;
Agreeing an annual savings target with the Head of Procurement and the Finance Director and delivering against the target every year;
The development of a stakeholder management and engagement plan that will allow you to demonstrate your tailored management approach to all key stakeholders together with a data driven method of demonstrating that their view of Procurement is improving;
Designing appropriate metrics to be able to demonstrate that the perception, profile and value of Procurement is improving within the business.

We'd be delighted to hear from you if you have the following skills/experience:


Must have 5+ years procurement experience in a management role;
Experience working within a highly verticalized company with occasionally conflicting approaches and objectives;
Experience within an engineering environment;
Must have experience in developing category plans and strategy;
Proven knowledge of Procurement practices in a customer led business environment;
A genuine appreciation and understanding of procurement process, practices and the value that Procurement can bring;
A successful track record of following a strategic sourcing / category management methodology;
A track record in savings delivery within a Procurement organisation;
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate exceptional stakeholder management approach and skills;
Demonstrable experience of working with key business stakeholders at a senior level within the business;
Experience of managing a team through change;
Excellent negotiation skills and techniques;
A background in automotive, aerospace or service driven organisation would be an advantage.


Degree / HND / HNC or equivalent in an appropriate discipline;
Professional qualification such as MCIPS or CIPD;
Depth and breadth of experience may be taken into account where these qualifications have not been obtained.
