The Customs and International Trade Delivery Area are responsible for the end to end service management and development of over 100 separate services from the generation of Trade Statistics, to the administration of Customs and Excise duties.

This is an exciting and challenging role as a key member of the delivery team, collaborating with partners throughout the full delivery lifecycle to ensure delivery and support of highest-quality software products.

We are looking for an Experienced Test (QAT) Analyst to join our existing Test Team where you will be reporting directly to one of our SO Senior Test (QAT) Analysts.

You will provide test support of live services, updates/enhancements and development of new/existing systems, across multiple locations.

Utilising your technical expertise and knowledge you will undertake functional and non-functional testing activities to meet Project requirements and support Test Team members.

In addition, you will utilise DevOps principles/practices to develop Automated Testing and support Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery across a variety of platforms.

Training and Qualifications
Candidate/s may be required to undertake further ISTQB training in Software Testing, which may include a formal examination. They will also be required to undertake learning in all relevant Customs & International Trade policies, processes and procedures within 1 year of starting in the role and complete all mandatory training as required.

Working Pattern
This post is full time however, those applicants who do or wish to work an alternative pattern are welcome to apply but are advised to speak with the job holder first before accepting a provisional offer. The preferred working pattern may/may not be available.

Your permanent location and place of work will be in the Edinburgh Regional Centre. However, for training purposes the post may involve a period/s on detached duty in Alexander House, Southend, of (up to) 2 months before taking up your permanent post in Edinburgh.

Responsibilities
The main responsibilities and skills for this role reflect the QAT Analyst DDaT specification (detailed below).

DDaT Responsibilities:-

A QAT analyst will undertake and execute appropriate test design and perform exploratory testing. At this level, you will:
• collaborate with delivery teams and determine the testability of functional and non-functional requirements
• have domain and business knowledge
• take a business and operational view when analysing the system under test

DDaT Skills description:-

Functional testing.
You can design and execute test cases using standard testing techniques. You can come up with different business scenarios for a feature, working with others in the team. (Relevant skill level: working)

Test analysis.
You can identify simple patterns and trends. You know how to investigate problems and opportunities in existing processes and can contribute to recommending solutions to these. You know how to work with stakeholders to identify objectives and potential benefits. (Relevant skill level: working)

The DDaT Profession consists of people who work in a digital, data or technology specialist role. They design, build and run government digital services. They are responsible for the way we find, access and use data and for the technology infrastructure which support those services. There are currently about 17,000 people working in the Profession. Essential Criteria:

You must be able to demonstrate experience of:

• Software Testing across the Software Development Lifecycle
• A range of Test tools e.g. Zephyr, Confluence, JIRA, JMeter, Cucumber
• Automation testing and test automation tools e.g. Ready API, SOAP UI
• A solid technical background (demonstrable skills, experience and/or
qualifications)
• Working as part of a team with a clear delivery focus

Desirable Criteria:

It would be desirable for applicants to be able to demonstrate experience of:

• The complete Software Development Lifecycle
• Multiple platforms e.g. Client / Server / Web / Unix / VME etc.
• Working within Agile/Scrum teams
• TDD and BDD (in detail)
• CI/CD and relevant tools e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Jenkins.
• Using version control systems such as Subversion or Git
• Release and Configuration Management processes
• Working knowledge on SQL queries
• A relevant software testing qualification e.g. ISEB/ISTQB (or equivalent)
