Director of Development & Alumni Relations
University of Liverpool
Highly Competitive Salary

The University of Liverpool seeks to appoint an exceptional individual into the role of Director of Development & Alumni Relations, a figurehead for alumni engagement and fundraising across the University. The University aspires to strengthen its ties with its diverse global community and to significantly grow funds raised from philanthropic sources, including from alumni, foundations and friends of the University and in particular from major gifts.

Since 1881, when its origins were inspired by a civic mission and enabled by philanthropic support, the University of Liverpool has been transforming lives through an ever-evolving portfolio of academic programmes, an ongoing commitment to widening participation in higher education and an impressive range of internationally acclaimed, life-changing research. A founding member of the Russell Group, associated with nine Nobel Prize winners, the University has a reputation that continues to grow, thanks to the endeavours of its staff, students and alumni.

The University's modern, 100-acre campus is situated in the heart of Liverpool's Knowledge Quarter and a short walk from the city centre. Liverpool is known throughout the world for its football, The Beatles and the 'original redbrick university'. It is a place full of surprises - stunning architecture, a thriving and diverse cultural scene, restaurants and, perhaps above all, the friendliest and most welcoming of people. Rural idylls can be found within easy commuting distance, while extraordinary landscapes including the Lake District and the mountains of North Wales are just a day trip away.

The University's ambitions are set out in 'Strategy 2026,' a ten-year strategy that seeks to further enhance its global impact in research, scholarship and knowledge leadership. The strategy draws on the strengths of its world-leading research and impact activities and its unique work in attracting students from diverse backgrounds to achieve their potential and become highly employable, global citizens.

The University sees this appointment as an exciting and challenging opportunity for a strategic, collaborative and imaginative fundraiser. Reporting to the Director of External Relations and working closely with the Vice Chancellor, you will be responsible for devising and implementing an innovative fundraising and alumni engagement strategy, which aims to deliver the University's ambitious funding priorities in support of the wider 2026 strategy.

Leading and inspiring a highly-effective team, you will bring a forward-thinking and creative approach to developing high-value relationships to maximise philanthropic income from both new and established sources, harnessing the help of academics, alumni and volunteers as appropriate. As the University's chief fundraiser, you will carry your own portfolio of major gifts prospects and will have an important role in the solicitation of six- and seven-figure donations. You will also play a key role in increasing engagement with the University's 220,000 alumni, in the UK and around the world.

You will be a confident communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills and inspirational leadership abilities. You will have well-rounded experience of strategic fundraising at a senior level and a proven track record in securing philanthropic gifts from major donors, gained within a large, complex organisation. You will be an excellent team player with a strong sense of integrity, outstanding networking and persuasive skills and a personal alignment with the values, and communicable passion for the vision and mission of the University of Liverpool.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative and global institution with a deep commitment to growing philanthropic income and strengthening alumni relations. Operating within a supportive and effective leadership structure, there is enormous potential for success in the role and the chance to make a strong personal impact.
