About the opportunity:

We are recruiting experienced hydraulic modellers to meet rapidly increasing demand from our major clients. As a Principal Hydraulic Modeller you will join one of our dynamic modelling teams and immediately begin to drive delivery of high profile and innovative flood modelling projects and programmes. You will be responsible for originating complex or innovative studies and guiding and reviewing the work of more junior staff on a range of hydraulic modelling studies.

This is a 6 month contract, with possibility to become permanent for the right candidate. You will be working flexibly, either in offices or at home and we welcome part time and full time applicants to the role.About you:

With a track record of delivering large and complicated pieces of work you are a technical leader with experience of managing people and project delivery to maintain high levels of performance. Happy to take ownership of your own and your teams performance you are comfortable delegating work, reviewing others work and ensuring high standards of delivery. An innovative thinker you strive for continual improvement. You are commercially aware with a strong understanding of the UK water and environment sector and the requirements of working in fast past consultancy


Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in geography, engineering, environmental science or another relevant subject (or other relevant technical qualification)

Extensive experience in implementing 1D and 2D modelling techniques for river, urban and coastal flooding applications.

Excellent knowledge and practice of Flood Modeller and Tuflow software

Excellent literacy, communication, analytical and numeracy skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent report writing and presentation skills

Experience of liaising with clients and managing delivery of hydraulic modelling projects and teams

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Chartered with ICE, CIWEM or a relevant professional body


Post graduate qualification in a related subject

Project management qualification (e.g. APM or PRINCE2)

Skill or interest in UK Flood Hydrology, Flood Forecasting, ICM Infoworks

Experience of flood risk management techniques and methods including option appraisals

Proven ability to present to an audience of varying technical capability (public, clients, technical specialists)

Experience of working with remote teams

Experience of hydraulic modelling for other applications such as water quality, wave overtopping, pollutant dispersion, 3D modelling
