About the role:
As the Technical Team Manager, you will be an experienced operational team manager with overall responsibility for your department within the Operational Technology area of Thames Water.
You will ensure that all OT Systems are fit for purpose and support the delivery of defined business outcomes. You will directly manager subject matter expert teams, be aligned with the ITIL framework, whilst meeting the expectations of all business and Thames Digital stakeholders.
Ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all people under their line management, as well as ensuring the work they conduct does not indirectly create any unsafe condition. In particular, the development nature of this role requires electrical devices to be connected in a temporary fashion to 230VAC systems, it is the responsibility of the team manager to ensure that all connections are safe and compliant with relevant standards. Anyone in the team who works on these systems must be assessed as competent to do so.
Directly managing a technical team's delivery to ensure the business continuity and fundamental reliability of all the OT operational stakeholders in Ops, Control and System Operation. Develop key relationships within OT and Thames Digital.

Problem-solving. Can initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems, including consulting specialists where required. Determine the appropriate remedy and assist with the implementation of it as well as preventative measures.
Service focus. Can take inputs and establish coherent frameworks that work.
An understanding of systems design. Understand the design of systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact and business or technical complexity. You understand how to select appropriate design standards, methods and tools and ensure they are applied effectively. You can review the systems designs of others to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology.
Establish standards and procedures across a service product life cycle including the development product life cycle and ensure that practitioners adhere to this. You know how to manage resources to ensure that the systems integration function works effectively.
Technical understanding. Input into the future strategy for OT systems to achieve the best use of current and future technologies.
Can manage the planning of system and/or acceptance tests, coordinating both functional and non-functional specifications. Provide authoritative advice and guidance on test planning and identify the process improvements and contribute to the definition of best practice.
Troubleshooting and problem resolution. Have lateral thinking capability to dissect a problem to its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes. You can troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities including computing, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, and COTS and open source solutions.
Information security. Understanding information security can design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services.
Ensure that all OT operational services within the department's remit are fit for purpose and work as part of the overall programme delivery team to support gate activities
Financial management - Work with the business areas to drive efficiencies and cost containment as an integral part of service delivery, specifically owning, managing and reporting on technical cost centre budgets to ensure that Thames Water are getting the most from the existing budget.
Supplier management - Work with supplier management to ensure robust contractual requirements are in place to deliver quality and cost-effective services.
Vendor Service Level Management - Work with stakeholders to define, manage, monitor, review and report on service level requirements and agreements, holding delivery partners to account for underpinning technical and operational service delivery
Programme Reporting - Ensure the provision of regular and accurate management reporting on directly managed teams' performance through the OT service desk to demonstrate the level of resources is appropriateTo be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Extensive experience of technical delivery in a complex, demanding organisation
Experience of managing conflicting demands within a complex matrix IT or OT operational environment
Has excellent interpersonal skills and is fully experienced in dealing with stakeholders. Proficient and effective communicator.
Proven problem solver with the ability to make a balanced decision considering technical, operational risk and customer needs
Ability to demonstrate personal authority and influencing skillsDesirable experience includes:
Possesses extensive knowledge of business and understands the significance of commercial constraints; has put together business justifications, cost models and risk/benefit profiles for projects or programmes of work.
Awareness of trends in wider industry and evidence of actions to anticipate their implications and willingness to maintain and develop external networks to understand trends and emerging best practices
