Engineering Category Manager - Automation / Mechatronics / Electro Mechanical / Robotics / MHE
Circa £65-70K

The product engineering team provides automation engineering product specialist knowledge, expertise and support to enable delivery of global CFC's (Automated Distribution Centres). They are accountable for the configuration, application and support of automation products and solutions released from Technology delivered at scale through Platform Implementation. They are the central conduit for all automation engineering product aspects of a new CFC.
The Engineering Category Manager is a cross functional role to provide joined up technical, commercial and strategic leadership for the global scale, sourcing and deployment of third party solutions used in the companies automated warehouses. This role has no direct reports, but the individual is expected to have considerable influence across teams to ensure cohesive strategy.

Role & Responsibilities
* Cohesive risk identification and mitigation, anticipating engineering challenges and opportunities across products and projects
* Conduct regular strategic reviews of the direction of third party systems and the ways of working to ensure it is appropriate and aligned prevailing business needs and climate
* Define and manage appropriate KPI's & metrics
* Develop and maintain close working relationships with key customers and collaborators
* Enabling and subsequently resolving an escalation route for cross functional and portfolio issues relating to third party systems
* Ensure full adherence by self and others to change control processes
* Ensure we have the right cross functional processes in place to deliver third party systems
* Maintain and championing both engineering best practice and standards
* Maintain global industry knowledge and network and be able to leverage this for the company
* Manage and balance the priorities of third party systems work, ensuring that individual projects do not cause detriment to another
* Provide a single point of focus and leadership for third party systems within PI
* Provide and influence the portfolio perspective on third party systems delivery within Platform Implementation
* Provide consolidated reporting (including risks and issues) for management of third party systems
* Support to the Solutions bid teams
* Work alongside commercial / business managers to ensure appropriate business cases are made, budgets created and approved and business priorities are met.
* Work in and ensure others work in a safe manner at all times
Work with Technology colleagues to ensure Platform Implementation are ready to deliver new third party systems in line with product roadmaps
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum:
Appreciation of applicable directives, codes, standards etc. (e.g. Machinery Directive, CDM 2015 etc.)
MHE Knowledge and experience
Technically and commercially aware
Coaching and mentoring of others
Comfortable and experienced in a dynamic, fast paced environment
Communication in a variety of forms to people at all levels, especially communicating technical information to non-technical audiences
Define and establish management process
Demonstrate a balanced and considered approach to problem resolution
Excellent technical competence and understanding relating to both automation and general engineering
Experience of projects in manufacturing, automotive, airports, FMCG distribution or similar field (could also be from within the MHE industry)
IT literate, proficient with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
Managing and operating in matrix organisations
End to end Project Engineering - demonstrable experience & success
Technical / Engineering qualification in a relevant field
Extensive related industry experience
Self-motivated team player
Preferred (in addition to minimum)
Experienced with managing solutions remotely
Familiarisation with CAD CAE packages
Experienced in international working
Sales or applications engineering
