For decades, St Rocco's has played a pivotal role in the Warrington community, enjoying an excellent reputation for providing superb care for those with life-limiting conditions.

Yet the changing nature of the palliative care environment, additional health-based costs and challenges to income streams had put the funding of the hospice under pressure even before the pandemic.

The additional issues posed by Covid have increased that pressure and now represent a major strategic challenge for the organisation. The Board are committed to ensuring the long term future of St Rocco's and are looking to appoint a Chief Executive with the drive and leadership skills to steer the hospice through the Covid and post-Covid environment.

This is a critical appointment. As Chief Executive you will be responsible for the day to day running of our hospice. You will be taking up the post at what is perhaps the most challenging time in the history of the organisation. Yet it also presents an exciting opportunity for the right person to drive the change St Rocco's needs to ensure it remains able to serve our community for years to come.

The successful candidate will:

Have a successful track record of building alliances and partnerships with other organisations
Be a leader, developing and delivering our strategic vision by creating a culture where best practice, governance, relationships and professional development of staff and volunteers flourish
Be accountable to the Board of Trustees for the overall leadership, management, performance, governance and development of the hospice, with a focus on both short-and long-term objectives
Take responsibility for the efficient, effective and safe running of St Rocco's, ensuring the organisation meets its clinical, financial, statutory and legal obligations
Develop existing and build new income streams and financial controls which can protect the financial security of the hospice and enable it to thrive in the Covid and post-Covid world.
Work with St Rocco's clinical and organisational leaders to continuously improve palliative care services for patients and their families
Be an ambassador for the hospice, embodying our valuesCore responsibilities:

Strategic:

Develop the strategic direction of the hospice in collaboration with the Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership Team
Provide exemplary leadership to ensure the hospice achieves its mission, values and charitable objectives
Build effective strategic partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders to
i) identify and exploit new revenue streams, and
ii) improve delivery of palliative care at St Rocco's
Maintain strong governance that meets external legal, regulatory and clinical requirements
Develop a positive, supportive culture where staff and volunteers are challenged, stimulated, motivated and developed
Be an ambassador for the hospice, representing it - and building strong relationships with - stakeholders including the media, corporate and individual supporters
Be the guardian of risk and opportunity for the hospice, alerting and advising the Board of Trustees to developments, policies and best practice which may influence the hospice's operationsOperational:

Lead the Senior Leadership Team to deliver its mission, values and charitable objectives
Support the Hospice Manager in meeting all clinical and legal requirements
Ensure the delivery of care services that meet and exceed regulatory standards
Oversee budgeting, reporting, auditing and other fiscal management measures
Ensure St Rocco's raises the funds required to meet appeal targets and maintain operational capability
Maintain effective risk management and auditing systems
Lead service improvements in response to the changing requirements of our community
Develop clinical and non-clinical policies and procedures to maintain and improve provision of safe, high quality services
Ensure our culture contributes to the recruitment and retention of high calibre, motivated staff and volunteers
Maintain effective performance review and appraisals and ensure staff are continually developed and able to meet the hospice's objectives
Maintain systems for investigating and learning from incidents and complaintsOther responsibilities:

Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters relating to hospice business, patients and staff
Other activities as requested by the Board of TrusteesSafeguarding children and adults

All hospice staff must at all times safeguard the health and wellbeing of children and adults at risk. Our safeguarding policies are required reading and participation in related training is mandatory.

Working hours:

Monday to Friday. Occasional weekend work as required
